Chapter 120.2: He Must Fall
As December arrived, the chill of Beijing's winter arrived.
The cold air chilled the project team members, making them even more irritable
and difficult, some even becoming more aggressive.
Chu Qianmiao shouldered all the pressure she could for the
project staff. When reporting to Ren Yan, she didn't mention any of these
matters, and she also told Hou Lin, Lu Zhonger, and Wang Sian not to mention
them either.
Recently, there have been some undercurrents at company
headquarters, and it seems there will be major personnel changes. No one can
say whether these changes will affect the investment banking department. If so,
the heads of several departments will be the first to be affected. Ren Yan had
his own pressures to bear, so it was best for her to handle and resolve these
issues on the project herself.
That day, Ren Yan called Chu Qianmiao back from the project
and asked her to report on the project's progress.
Sitting in Ren Yan's office, Chu Qianmiao calmly said,
"Everything is going well on the project."
Then she changed the subject, lowering her voice and asking
Ren Yan, "Senior, I heard you've been visiting headquarters quite a bit
lately. It seems there's been some turmoil there lately, and there are going to
be some personnel changes."
Ren Yan glanced at her and said, "That loudmouth Qin
Qianyu told you."
Chu Qianmiao: "No."
"But it's written all over your face."
"..."
Ren Yan said to Chu Qianmiao: "These matters are none
of your business, and you can't control them. Your core job is to complete the
project and achieve results."
After a pause, he returned to the topic, "Everything is
indeed going well on the project."
Chu Qianmiao nodded: "Everything is fine."
Ren Yan pondered for a moment, then asked directly:
"Are there any particularly difficult people or situations?"
Chu Qianmiao: "No."
"Why do I hear there are?"
Chu Qianmiao gritted her teeth: "Hou Lin listens to me
and won't say anything nonsense, so it must be those two loudmouths, Lu Zhonger
and Wang Sian, who told you."
Ren Yan: "Not them."
"But it's written all over your face..."
Ren Yan smiled. The scene shifted.
There was a knock at the door, and Ren Yan said, "Come
in." Hou Lin entered, laptop in hand. Her eyes and nose were red. She
spoke with a mixture of grievance and anger, yet she had to suppress her
emotions. She said to Chu Qianmiao, "Ms. Chu, can you please return to the
office? I have something to report to you."
Chu Qianmiao knew someone from the company must be giving
Hou Lin a hard time again. She felt a mixture of distress and anger.
She was about to stand up when Ren Yan spoke, "Ms. Chu
isn't going back. If you have anything, please report it to her here."
His voice was cold, his eyes sharp, and Hou Lin trembled as
she held the laptop.
"Ms. Chu," Hou Lin pleaded with Chu Qianmiao.
Before Chu Qianmiao could say anything, Ren Yan raised an
eyebrow and spoke, his voice even more commanding than before. "She's your
boss, and I'm your boss's boss. She needs to report to me. What's wrong? Is
there anything you can't report to me?"
Chu Qianmiao saw that Hou Lin was nearly frightened to death
by Ren Yan.
She sighed and quickly said to Hou Lin, "Just report to
me here."
Hou Lin took two tentative steps forward, placed her
computer in front of Chu Qianmiao, and said, "You've reviewed the document
I wrote, but I've sent it to the company's office director several times, and
he insists on making changes here and there. He insists it can't be submitted
to the chairman without them, and we're anxiously waiting for their
stamp."
Chu Qianmiao tapped the touchpad, scrolling through the
emails between Hou Lin and the company's office director.
The more she read, the angrier she became.
This office director's treatment of the intermediary project
staff was even worse than Dou Shan's back then. Chu Qianmiao understood the
office director's intentions. He wanted to use these emails to prove to the
chairman that he was not only responsible for his work but also had strong
business skills. It was he who had repeatedly guided the brokerage firm through
the revisions of the materials, ultimately ensuring that they were presented to
the chairman in a presentable manner.
Chu Qianmiao looked up at Hou Lin and said, "Don't
worry about this matter. I'll handle it."
Her voice was steady, her aura powerful, calm and
commanding, as if a tremendous aura was hidden within her, waiting to be
unleashed. Her words were strangely reassuring. Hou Lin's eyes shone with
admiration.
"Thank you, Boss," she said, withdrawing with her
computer.
Chu Qianmiao looked up at Ren Yan, meeting his deep gaze and
the slightly raised corner of his mouth.
She smiled at him. "Mr. Ren, I'm sure you'll want to
see how I handle this, right? So, Mr. Ren, may I borrow your computer?"
Ren Yan spread his hands and stood up from the leather
chair. Chu Qianmiao walked over and sat down in the leather chair. The warmth
of his body still lingered on the chair, sending a thrill of excitement through
her. Ren Yan stood by, his hands tucked into his trouser pockets, his eyes cast
down as he watched her move.
She began to operate Coco on his computer.
She opened her email and downloaded the file Hou Lin had
copied on her. She entered the new email compose screen and attached the file.
As she worked on her Coco, she told Ren Yan, "This
company's office director is an upgraded version of Dou Shan back then. A
complete Dou Shan s. From the very beginning, he's been stuck with all the
project team's documents, from the restructuring plan to the project schedule
to all the project reports. He always finds the slightest flaw, then sends
everyone back five or eight times for revisions, saying they can only be
submitted to the chairman after they've been revised. He also says the chairman
is busy, so don't bother him by sending unfinished documents to him."
Chu Qianmiao selected the office director's email address in
the Send To field and entered the chairman's and all the project team members'
email addresses in the Cc field. No one else could Cc the chairman, but since
she was the overall project leader, she couldn't say anything if she Cc'd him.
As Chu Qianmiao manipulated these tasks with her mouse, she
continued, "The chairman of the company is quite a tough guy himself. He's
soft-spoken and quick to believe anything he says. When the office director
says something needs to be changed, he thinks it absolutely needs to be
changed."
After selecting the recipients, Chu Qianmiao wrote a message
to the office director in the body of the email, using official document
format. "The materials are attached, please check."
The office director quickly replied with an email, stating
that the section on the company's future development needed some further
refinement.
Chu Qianmiao glanced at the email but didn't respond. She
looked up and chatted with Ren Yan for a while.
She sat in his leather chair, her hand resting on one cheek,
looking up at him from the side. He stood beside her, his hands tucked into his
trouser pockets, his eyes lowered.
The winter sun streamed in through the window, illuminating
their gaze like a brilliant painting.
After chatting for a while, Ren Yan asked Chu Qianmiao,
"Open the file! I'll take a look at the issues regarding the company's
future development."
Chu Qianmiao replied, "Boss, you don't need to read the
contents of the document. I've carefully reviewed that section and there are no
issues. Now, let me show you a good show."
In front of Ren Yan, Chu Qianmiao attached the same
document, unchanged. He then sent a copy to the office director, copied the
chairman, and the entire project team, and wrote in the body of the email,
"The final revised version of the document is attached. Please
check."
A moment later, the office director replied, saying the
revised document was excellent and ready.
Ren Yan stood by, raising an eyebrow.
Chu Qianmiao immediately sent another email, attaching the
same document, saying he apologized for sending the wrong document. The
previous document was the unmodified version. This document was the final
revised version. Furthermore, for documents where the difference between
changes and unmodified parts is not obvious, we recommend that the office
director minimize these formal changes without substantive changes. They
significantly slow work efficiency and impact the company's IPO progress.
The office director didn't reply for a long time. The phrase
"The difference between revised and unrevised isn't noticeable"
slapped him in the face with a nice, respectable touch.
The chairman did email the office director back, and
immediately compared the revised parts of the documents from several drafts,
sending them to my office.
Chu Qianmiao smiled at the email. Her maneuvering had made
the company chairman realize that the office director was probably just blindly
nitpicking the documents without even reading them, trying to appear competent.
Chu Qianmiao looked up at Ren Yan, who raised an eyebrow at
her.
Then he raised his lip at her.
"Sly," he said.
Chu Qianmiao smiled, "You taught me that."
She also smiled and said, "Doesn't this scene sound
familiar? You protected me back then, and now I can protect my subordinates,
too."
Ren Yan raised an eyebrow again, saying, "But you'll
probably offend the office director. Have you considered how this will delay
our work?"
Chu Qianmiao remained calm, unfazed. "I thought of this
just before sending the email, but then I thought again. From now on, I'll have
someone liaise with the CFO for financial matters, the head of administration
for administrative matters, and the company's technical staff for business and
technical matters. That means documents requiring the chairman's signature and
seal will need to be handled by the office director. That's easy. From now on,
I'll just liaise directly with the chairman. I don't think I need to please
everyone; that's unrealistic. I just need to satisfy the supervisors of those
who are dissatisfied."
After a pause, she looked up at Ren Yan and smiled.
"Besides, I'm under 30, and the office director is in his 40s. My future
career will be mine, and his will be mine. I don't have any reason to worry
about him. He should worry about me."
Her words were spoken with unwavering confidence.
Ren Yan stared at her, his heart pounding silently in his
chest. The girl he had raised was becoming even more remarkable.
Before he could say anything, Chu Qianmiao's phone and his
phone suddenly began vibrating wildly on their desktops.
In their shared department group chat, Hou Lin, Lu Zhonger,
and Wang Sian were frantically scrolling through the messages. They had shared
a screenshot of Chu Qianmiao's email.
Leader Hou Lin is so handsome, so handsome! Leader, you're
so awesome! I really want to marry you!
Lu Zhonger, Qin Qianyu, Liu Lifeng, Sun Yi, Yan Yunqiang,
come and see our President Chu. Isn't she just so strategic?
Leader Wang Sian, Ren Yan, our President Chu is so much like
you right now. She's protecting her subordinates, and she's so tough, so brave
and strategic, she's choking them to death.
Qin Qianyu, "Oh my god, oh my god, oh my god!"
"Oh my god, it's so important, oh my god!" I have to say it three
times. Qian Miao, I can't open my eyes. Are you glowing?
Chu Qianmiao smiled, put away her phone, stood up, and
returned the seat to Ren Yan. As they passed each other, he whispered something
in her ear.
"This scene is quite familiar. You can handle things on
your own and protect your subordinates, just like I used to. But you're more
skilled and far-sighted than me. You've surpassed me."
Chu Qianmiao froze in place, unable to move. She couldn't
tell if it was because he'd charmed her or because he'd praised her.
She turned her head and saw Ren Yan had already slumped back
into his leather chair, becoming her boss once again, the mastermind.
He suddenly looked up and raised an eyebrow at her.
"Why don't you go out and work? You're planning to stay here until the end
of the day."
Chu Qianmiao: "..."
Ren Yan raised his lip slightly. "Now I don't have to
worry about you. You're more than capable of handling the various pressures of
the project. Go get busy," he said calmly, his tone filled with relief.
Chu Qianmiao left Ren Yan's office with a bright smile.
