Chapter 107.2: You're Too Much of a Distraction

On Monday, she sported her new hairstyle, light makeup, lipstick, a white shirt, and a high-waisted red one-piece skirt. When she entered the office, the receptionist first greeted her with a "Hello," then called out, "Ms. Chu," followed by a heartfelt compliment, "Ms. Chu, you look so beautiful today."

Chu Qianmiao gracefully thanked her.

Later, she ran into several colleagues from Li Si's department. Gu Kai's eyes widened when he saw her. The two project managers addressed her as "Ms. Chu." She smiled and nodded in greeting.

Then she passed the tea room. Ren Yan was coming out with a glass of water. When he looked up and saw her, she smiled and called out, "Mr. Ren, good morning."

She then saw the glass of water in his hand tremble, nearly spilling it.

He stared at her for a long, piercing look, his eyes ablaze. Before anyone could notice, he averted his gaze, nodded nonchalantly in response to her greeting, and said, "Good morning."

Seeing his momentary loss of composure, Chu Qianmiao felt incredibly delighted. Before then, he'd always been willing to tease her, never stopping until she blushed with shyness.

She'd always felt at a disadvantage in his hands. Now, it was her turn to gain the upper hand, to see him lose his composure.

She pushed open the door and entered the office. When Qin Qianyu looked up, he jerked back with a startled jerk.

He glared at Chu Qianmiao and slapped his chest. "Oh my god, those flaming red lips of yours are so sexy, aren't they? Oh my god, Qianmiao, I just realized today that you're not my brother, but my sister. But thankfully, my love for my wife is unwavering, so you'll always be my brother in my eyes."

Chu Qianmiao smiled and said, "Don't worry, brother. I'm your real brother."

As soon as she sat down, her phone started ringing. She checked the caller ID and saw it was Tang Jie.

After answering, Tang Jie smiled and asked, "Should I call you Qianmiao or Ms. Chu?"

Chu Qianmiao quickly smiled and said, "Mr. Tang, don't be ridiculous. Of course, I'm Qianmiao."

Tang Jie also smiled. "Don't call me Mr. Tang anymore. Call me Brother Tang. By the way, Qianmiao, didn't you say before that if we had a good project, we could work together? I have a project right now, introduced by a friend. I'll send you the information first. Do you think you're interested?"

Chu Qianmiao immediately agreed.

After hanging up, Tang Jie emailed her the project details. It was an auto parts company planning an IPO. The company was performing well and had promising prospects. Chu Qianmiao immediately printed a hard copy after reviewing the materials. She knocked on Ren Yan's door and entered his office with the paperwork.

When Ren Yan looked up at her from his computer, his eyes darkened, narrowing slightly.

She walked over to his desk, handed him the materials, and asked for his opinion. "Leader, please take a look at this company. They're planning an IPO. Is it feasible?"

As she spoke, Ren Yan's eyes remained fixed on her mouth.

Red lips and white teeth.

Adam's apple rolled quietly against his neck.

He took the materials from her, flipped through them, and then looked up and said, "The company's qualifications are good. We can do this." He paused.

He narrowed his eyes and asked, "You contacted the project yourself?"

Chu Qianmiao tilted her head and smiled, "Yes, I've contacted Tang Jie before, and we've reached an agreement to collaborate on future projects."

Her tilt of the head made Ren Yan's eyes darken again.

He glanced quickly at the door, then backed away, narrowing his eyes at her. He whispered, "Don't do that to other men again."

Chu Qianmiao blinked and said, "Oh."

But she mentally made a note that these little gestures could cause Ren Yan to lose control and become disadvantaged.

Ren Yan regained his voice and said, "Let's meet Tang Jie and talk."

Chu Qianmiao and Tang Jie had arranged to have tea at Colorful Yunnan that afternoon. She suggested Ren Yan should also be there, so they could discuss the project.

In the afternoon, all three of them met in the private room at Colorful Yunnan. After a warm greeting, the conversation got down to business.

Tang Jie said, "By the way, I'm no longer working at my old firm. I told Qian Miao about this. I don't think Mr. Ren knows yet."

Ren Yan said Chu Qian Miao had already relayed the news to him.

Chu Qianmiao asked Tang Jie, "Why did you change jobs, Brother Tang?"

Tang Jie smiled and said, "Well, actually, I have to thank you. First, you helped me weigh the pros and cons that time and showed me that job-hopping isn't that scary. Second, when I went on strike, even my former boss couldn't handle the project on-site. This indirectly proved my ability, and therefore, the partners at other accounting firms were tempted to poach me with high salaries."

Chu Qianmiao asked, "Why did your former boss just let you go?"

Tang Jie smiled and said, "Actually, I just didn't want to work there anymore."

He took a sip of tea to moisten his mouth and explained to Chu Qianmiao and Ren Yan, "After we finished the Liya project together, my former boss wanted me to help with a backdoor listing project. By the way, coincidentally, that project is also from your Litong firm, and it's being worked on by a guy named Kan Qingzhou."

Hearing Kan Qingzhou's name, Chu Qianmiao turned and exchanged a glance with Ren Yan.

"I followed this project for a while, but I just couldn't continue." Tang Jie shook his head and sighed. "I really don't get along with Kan Qingzhou from your company. I don't know if you're familiar with Mr. Ren's work style, but he and you are completely different. He's always muddled through everything and always steps on the line. If you tell him something's wrong, he'll tell you to stop being so picky and looking for trouble. It's too nerve-wracking to run a project like that. And since someone wanted to recruit me, I decided to just change jobs."

Chu Qianmiao exchanged glances with Ren Yan again, then smiled at Tang Jie and said, "Then I think you made the right decision to change jobs."

The three of them then discussed the Zhufeng Auto Parts project. Tang Jie provided a more detailed overview of the company and its owner than the preliminary materials in the email.

"In short, the company has good credentials, good profits, and promising prospects. The owner, Du Xiaofeng, may seem rather aggressive, but if you meet him, Qianmiao, you'll definitely get along. He's a warm-hearted, passionate person, just like you."

Chu Qianmiao smiled. "Now that you mention it, I really want to meet him."

After hearing about the company and its owner, Ren Yan expressed his opinion to Tang Jie. "Ms. Chu is now our company's sponsor representative and is fully capable of leading the project independently. Therefore, she will be solely responsible for this project from now on. You can contact her directly with anything. This was originally the project you wanted her to handle, and I'm just helping to review it. If the project is good and it's finalized, I won't interfere."

The matter was settled. Tang Jie and Chu Qianmiao agreed on a date. He said they would discuss which law firm to partner with next time they met, and in the meantime, he asked Chu Qianmiao to help him identify suitable partners. He then checked his watch and apologetically excused himself, "It's half past five. I have to pick up my son."

Chu Qianmiao escorted him out the door.

When she returned to the private room, she saw Ren Yan sitting on the sofa, his suit jacket off.

He was wearing a white shirt and looked up at her with a deep, intense gaze. He told her to close the door.

He then waved, saying, "Come here."

Chu Qianmiao's cheeks began to heat as she approached. She controlled herself, calming herself, avoiding his hormonal urges.

She walked over to Ren Yan and asked, "What are you doing?"

Before she could finish her words, he pulled her onto his lap.

He embraced her in his favorite position, his eyes lowered as he looked at her.

She panicked, staring at the door and whispering, "Someone's going to come in."

He simply lowered his gaze, unfazed, and told her, "No one's going to come in. The waiters here are trained to knock and get permission before entering."

But it was still too exciting. Chu Qianmiao's heart was pounding.

Ren Yan raised his hand to pinch her chin, his voice hoarse as he leaned in and asked, "Why do I feel a little sorry for letting you do your hair? Hmm?" The last syllable of his words fell on her lips, and he whispered, "You're taking my mind away so much. I've been putting up with you all day."

Chu Qianmiao endured his kiss, feeling anxious that someone might come in.

The tension made her incredibly sensitive; the slightest flick of his tongue sent a shiver through her.
