Chapter 163: Visit
By the time Lin Li read the newspaper and learned about what
happened at the hospital, she called and found out that An Ran had already been
taken home by Su Yicheng. Actually, they both knew she was fine, but they were
worried that An Ran's shock the previous day might affect the fetus, so they
kept her in the hospital for observation overnight. That morning, after
confirming that everything was normal and the fetus was developing normally, Su
Yicheng was relieved and took An Ran back to their home in the city.
Not long after they arrived home, Lin Li called in, her tone
urgent, repeatedly asking where she was and if she was still in the hospital,
saying she would be there soon. Upon learning that An Ran had returned home,
she said without a second thought, "I'll be there right now," and
hung up.
Just as An Ran hung up, Su Yicheng's phone rang. It was Qin
Yun. After confirming that both of them were fine and not seriously injured,
she then harshly berated Su Yicheng, saying he hadn't learned his lesson from
the previous incident, which was why he'd gotten into trouble again. She also
stated that if her husband resorted to family discipline again, she wouldn't
say a word on his behalf.
Su Yicheng hung up again and turned to meet An Ran's eyes,
who was sitting next to him. Her worry was palpable.
Su Yicheng ruffled her hair amusedly. "What's
wrong?"
An Ran shook her head. Qin Yun's voice was a little high,
agitated, so everything they'd just said on the phone reached her ears. She
sighed softly and murmured, "Has the Su family's upbringing always been
this strict?" There were some things she tried to avoid, but they couldn't
be avoided. So how could she blame him for everything? Besides, they were all
just mortals, not superhuman beings, so how could they possibly do everything
perfectly?
"It's like that for boys." Su Yicheng nodded,
pulling her into his arms and saying, "From a young age, my father and
grandfather taught boys to be selfless. That's how they can support a family
and protect their families from harm. This is a man's innate responsibility and
obligation. There's no shirking, only striving to do better."
Leaning against his chest, An Ran asked, "What about
girls?" Her small hands idly toyed with the buttons on his shirt.
"Girls are, of course, different. Girls need to be
pampered. They're angels sent by God, cherished and doted on." Su Yicheng
said, stroking her belly back and forth. Here, too, lived two little angels,
gifted to him by God. In a few months, they would meet.
An Ran half-smiled and asked, "Is this a preference for
girls over boys?"
Su Yicheng nodded in the affirmative, "Yes, you could
say that."
An Ran sighed softly, saying with some emotion, "I
really hope both of these little ones in my belly are girls." She was
certain that if her own children were to demand family discipline like this in
the future, she would be heartbroken. They were all her flesh, how could she
bear to part with them?
"Haha," Su Yicheng laughed, kissed her cheek, and
said, "I will."
The two sat there, hugging each other, for a while before
the doorbell rang. The person outside clearly had no patience. The hand
pressing the doorbell seemed to never let go, and the ding-dong sound
continued.
"It must be Lin Li." An Ran knew without
hesitation that the person outside the door would ring the doorbell like this.
She was about to stand up to open the door, but Su Yicheng grabbed her just as
she was about to stand. "I'll go."
Letting her sit back down on the sofa, Su Yicheng stood up
to open the door. An Ran's guess was correct; the person standing outside was
indeed Lin Li. However, when Su Yicheng opened the door, Lin Li didn't even
glance at him. She rushed in, calling anxiously, "Anzi, Anzi, are you
okay? Are you okay?"
An Ran stood up from the sofa and looked at Lin Li, who was
rushing over in a hurry. She smiled helplessly, "I'm not... "I told
you not to come over, didn't I?"
"How could I not come over to see something this
serious?" Lin Li said, glancing her up and down. Only after confirming she
was alright did she finally feel relieved. Then, with a hint of resentment, she
glanced at An Ran and said, "Gu Anran, how could you not tell me about
something so serious? I saw the newspaper this morning and was almost scared to
death by you!"
"It's okay, I'm fine," An Ran smiled, pulling her
to sit down beside her.
On the other side, Su Yicheng gripped the doorknob, somewhat
surprised to see Zhou Han standing at the doorway. He hadn't expected Zhou Han
to come with Lin Li.
Zhou Han stood at the doorway, looking at him with a
slightly serious expression. Glancing at his bandaged hand, he asked, "Is
your hand okay?"
Su Yicheng finally came to his senses, leaning over and
smiling faintly, saying, "It's nothing serious. Come in and sit
down."
Zhou Han nodded and stepped past him into the room.
In the living room, An Ran was slightly surprised to see
Zhou Han enter. She glanced curiously at Lin Li, who was sitting next to her.
Then, smiling, she stood up and said to Zhou Han, "Mr. Zhou and Lin Li
came together."
Zhou Han's expression remained slightly serious. He only
curled his lips and nodded at An Ran. He then placed the fruit basket he was
carrying on the coffee table and looked up. "We read the newspaper this
morning, so we came to see if you're okay."
"It's okay, it's okay," An Ran said with a smile.
She looked at Lin Li, who was sitting next to her, with a strange and ambiguous
smile. Having known each other for so long, Lin Li knew what was going on in
her little head, but she rolled her eyes in boredom.
Zhou Han sat down on the sofa across from Lin Li, while Su
Yicheng went into the kitchen to pour tea for Lin Li and Zhou Han.
Seeing this, An Ran, who was sitting in the living room,
took Su Yicheng's injured hand into consideration, stood up, smiled at them
both, and then went into the kitchen as well. Taking the kettle and teacup from
him, she simply said, "I'll do it."
Su Yicheng didn't object, but simply stepped aside. It
seemed he really wasn't that convenient right now.
As An Ran poured water and grabbed tea leaves, she looked
over the counter toward the living room. Lin Li and Zhou Han sat across from
her, silent.
"What's wrong?" Su Yicheng asked out of pure
curiosity, seeing her constantly staring outside.
An Ran simply shook her head mysteriously, muttering,
"I'll have to ask Lin Li about this later." Su Yicheng didn't quite
understand what she meant.
The two of them each carried a cup of tea to Lin Li and Zhou
Han.
Of the four people sitting, Lin Li was the most talkative.
She pulled An Ran aside, asking about everything, then touched her belly,
asking if her godsons were alright. Su Yicheng, sitting nearby, frowned
slightly at the word "godsons," but, as guests are welcome, he didn't
say anything.
The four of them sitting like this felt a bit strange, and
it felt like some topics were difficult to discuss. So An Ran pulled Lin Li
into the room. There was a large balcony off the master bedroom, and the view
from there wasn't bad at all.
Leaning against the balcony railing, An Ran nudged her and
asked, "Lin Li, have you and Zhou Han made any progress?"
Lin Li gave her a strange look and asked, "What
progress?"
An Ran gave her an ambiguous look and said, "you both
came here together, so there must be something going on!"
Hearing this, Lin Li rolled her eyes at her, somewhat
annoyed, and said unhappily, "What nonsense! Aren't Zhou Han and your boss
Su friends? I said I came to see you, and he said he came to see your boss Su.
So, perfect, I just took his car. What's the big deal? Do you think we're like you
and your boss Su?"
"That's not a bad thing." At least she hadn't
regretted marrying Su Yicheng since then.
Outside, in the living room, Su Yicheng poured himself a
glass of water and sat down in front of Zhou Han.
Zhou Han took a sip from the teacup on the coffee table,
then set it down, looking at him. Finally, he slowly asked, "How is Ling
Ran?" The newspaper said she'd been shot.
Su Yicheng wasn't surprised by Zhou Han's question. When
he'd just arrived, he'd already guessed the purpose of his visit.
He took a sip from the cup and said calmly, "She was
shot in the abdomen, but the bullet has been removed and she's not in danger of
death." Captain Wu had told him this last night. Whether it was the 'porn
photo scandal' or the recent stabbing at the hospital, Ling Ran wouldn't be
able to escape legal action. He would have to cooperate with the investigations
of both cases as needed.
Zhou Han simply nodded, a bitter smile playing on his face.
He said with a hint of self-mockery, "Do you think I'm ridiculous?"
He knew Ling Ran's true character, yet he still couldn't let her go.
Su Yicheng remained silent. He had no right to criticize or
comment on other people's feelings.
"Will you intervene in her affairs?" Zhou Han
looked at him.
"I don't need to intervene. She can't escape the law,
right?" Su Yicheng looked at him and asked, "Or do you want to
intervene and help her?"
Zhou Han smiled, shook his head, and said firmly,
"No." Everyone is responsible for their own actions. Besides, he had
no right to intervene or even help her. They were not husband and wife, not
even related at all. Even Xiaobin had made it clear that she would not
recognize him. What else could he say?
Without waiting for Lin Li to come out, Zhou Han stood up,
looked at his watch, and said, "I have something to do at the company.
I'll be leaving first."
Su Yicheng didn't try to stop him, but nodded and walked him
out.
When Lin Li and An Ran came out of the bedroom, Zhou Han had
already left for a while. Lin Li didn't care, just nodded and said she had to
go to the company as well. She said something to An Ran, turned around and gave
Su Yicheng a warning look before turning and leaving.
After Lin Li left, An Ran frowned slightly and muttered,
"Is it really impossible for them to be together?"
