Chapter 89.2: The Feeling of Being Disappointed
The next day, on the way to the banquet, Chu Qianmiao asked Qin Qianyu if he remembered what he had said to her the night before. Qin Qianyu pondered for a moment, his face bewildered. "Yesterday, Mr. Ren and I had a few drinks, and I went back to my room and fell asleep. How come we were still chatting?"
Chu Qianmiao suggested he review
their WeChat chat logs from yesterday.
After reviewing, Qin Qianyu's
bewilderment deepened. "What's going on? I drank so much yesterday. I
can't remember anything Mr. Ren said to me at dinner last night." He
looked at the WeChat chat logs and said, "Is this what I'm repeating Mr.
Ren's words? That doesn't sound like something Mr. Ren would say. How could I
possibly say such nonsense after drinking so much?"
""
Chu Qianmiao decided to buy ten
more bottles of Six Walnuts and send them to Qin Qianyu's room that evening to
help him boost his brain.
Before entering the private room,
she asked Qin Qianyu one last question, "Why did you suddenly end up
having dinner and drinking with Mr. Ren last night?"
Qin Qianyu rolled his eyes,
thinking for a moment, then rolled his eyes back again. "Mr. Ren said he
had something to ask me and asked me to join him for dinner. But right after we
started, he started drinking with me and got me drunk." He slapped his
forehead and said, "I think before I blacked out, Mr. Ren casually asked
me if Liu Lifeng had a girlfriend. As for how he started asking, I don't really
remember."
Chu Qianmiao found it incredible
that Ren Yan would actually ask such a question.
After a pause, her face began to
burn. But she didn't dare to think about it, and she wouldn't let herself. She
prayed that Qin Qianyu wouldn't get too excited and start to think about it.
The atmosphere at the dinner was
excellent. Qian Siji and the owner of Xinghen's rival company seemed to be
getting along very well. The two had reached a preliminary agreement on a
partnership, and the other company's owner had expressed a willingness to sign
a letter of intent for a merger and acquisition with Qian Siji as soon as
possible. The price they agreed on was the same as the one they had previously
agreed on for Xinghen. During the meal, Chu Qianmiao noticed that Cui Xijie was
initially nonchalant, but gradually, as he saw Qian Siji engaging in a serious
conversation with the other company's boss, his expression subtly changed.
After the banquet, Ren Yan, in
front of the other three, instructed Chu Qianmiao, "Prepare the letter of
intent to acquire the new target company quickly. Do you understand?"
Chu Qianmiao nodded solemnly,
"I understand."
That evening, she sent the letter
of intent to Ren Yan and copied all department members.
A little later, Ren Yan forwarded
an email to everyone. It was from the new target company's boss, stating that
the letter of intent would be printed and stamped the next day and sent to Li
Ya. They would work closely with Li Ya to expedite the subsequent procedures.
Chu Qianmiao knew that a letter of
intent alone meant little and had limited legal binding force, but the mutual
exchange of strong expressions of cooperation was enough to make some people
restless.
The next day was another day of
frequent interaction between Li Ya and the new target company. Neither Cui
Xijie nor Xinghen Materials made any moves.
The third day was no different.
On the fourth day, Ren Yan informed
Chu Qianmiao and Qin Qianyu that Xinghen's Qu Xin had finally become restless.
He had entered Qian Siji's office early in the morning, bursting into tears
while discussing brotherhood, slapping himself and claiming he had been
possessed by evil.
The subsequent developments in this
matter were unexpected. The two companies were bidding against each other,
lowering their prices lower and lower, vying to be acquired by Li Ya.
Qian Siji was ecstatic, commenting,
"Qu Xincai is such a person. He's shameless when you give him favors, and
he's always trying to be mean when you don't."
Chu Qianmiao declined to comment.
She had gradually trained herself, through so many projects, to separate her
personal emotions from her work.
The final outcome was that, because
the prices were low, Qian Siji simply acquired both companies. This effectively
gave him a monopoly on the upstream materials market, and ultimately, he became
the biggest winner in this matter.
After resolving the matter, Ren Yan
closed the door and dealt with Cui Xijie.
He sent the others out and, in the
due diligence office, played the video he'd recorded from the restaurant for
Cui Xijie.
Cui Xijie panicked for a moment,
but quickly regained his composure. Subconsciously, he had already deduced that
Ren Yan had already guessed the whole story.
After calming down, he smiled and
asked Ren Yan, "Mr. Ren, what does showing me this video mean? I just had
a meal with them."
His denial was exactly what Chu
Qianmiao had imagined.
Ren Yan didn't want to argue any
further and simply told him, "Don't pretend to stay out of this. The
acquisition has been completed, and Qu Xincai and Qian Siji have become family.
That's why Qu Xincai has already told Qian Siji everything about the deal you
made. He said it was all your idea, and he even produced the recording of the
meal. So, your supposed ally has sold you out and is putting the blame on you.
Do you think your friendship alone can convince Qu Xincai to keep it a
secret?"
Cui Xijie's signature smile finally
faded.
"Mr. Ren, can you please hear
my explanation?" he asked, his face filled with sincerity and regret.
"My family's really short on money lately. My mother's sick."
Ren Yan looked at Cui Xijie and
felt sad for him. He felt sad for the shamelessness of a gambler.
"Cui Xijie," Ren Yan
interrupted his sincere yet sorrowful confession. "Before you said this, I
still had a glimmer of hope for you, hoping you'd tell the truth. But just now,
you destroyed that hope yourself."
He laid out a copy of Cui Xijie's
flight itinerary to Macau and placed it in front of him.
"Is it because your mother is
sick and needs the money, or is it because you went to Macau for something
else? We'll know once we investigate."
Cui Xijie's face completely paled.
Ren Yan said with regret,
"You're a guaranteed employee. You had a bright future. Why did you let
yourself become like this? I told you, when working on projects, you should
keep your distance from the company's people, avoid emotional reactions, and
stay rational. But on a previous project, you were hanging out with the boss's
son. Was it him who took you to Macau and taught you how to gamble? He's a
wealthy second-generation kid. No matter how big a hole he makes, his father
will cover it. Do you rely on buying a few invoices or committing some economic
crime? This money is enough for you to cause harm."
Cui Xijie burst into tears.
Chu Qianmiao was standing just
outside the door. She hadn't intended to eavesdrop; she'd simply left her phone
inside and wanted to retrieve it.
She listened to Ren Yan's words,
her heart pounding.
She thought that Ren Yan's request
to remain calm and rational, even aloof, while working on the project was quite
reasonable.

She didn't want to continue
eavesdropping unconsciously and turned to leave.
Inside the room, Ren Yan finally
told Cui Xijie, "Your actions constitute an economic crime, and there's
ample evidence. But I want to give you a chance this time. I hope you can break
your bad habits and pursue your career. I don't want to see you ruined like
this. So I won't pursue you, but I can't keep you any longer. Just resign. You
were referred by headquarters, so tell them later that it was your own decision
to resign. And, by the way, don't go to Kan Qingzhou's department. Leave Litong
completely. That's the condition for me not pursuing you."
Author's Note: Ren Yan
watched my girl and Liu Lifeng bicker, and I wasn't envious at all. Really, who
cares?
