Water and Fire~Chapter 81.1: You Dare Touch My People

Chapter 81.1: You Dare Touch My People

On the large rectangular screen in front of the conference room, experts were discussing some key issues to consider in investment banking practices. Their characteristically hypnotic voices had already set off a few faint, rising and falling snores in the back row.

Chu Qianmiao subconsciously took notes, her mind drifting off into a state of distraction.

She had never imagined Li Tang would make this move, that she would actually switch to the Quality Control Department at Litong Securities.

Backstage Quality Control Department, also known as the Quality Assurance Department. Every investment banking project must undergo an on-site review by the company's Quality Assurance Department before being submitted to the China Securities Regulatory Commission. Furthermore, projects must undergo the company's internal review process before submission to the CSRC, and the Quality Assurance Department is also responsible for organizing and convening the internal review meeting.

Simply put, every project must go through several rounds of review with the Quality Control Department before being submitted to the CSRC for approval. Failure to pass this stage negates all further work. Many projects are rejected during the initial stage or core review phase simply because they fail the Quality Control Department's review.

Chu Qianmiao felt that this showed Li Tang's thinking was sound. Besides working directly with Ren Yan's department, the Quality Control Department was probably where she would have the greatest chance of interacting with him. Before a project was submitted, everyone would have had close communication.

But considering Litong Securities' internal regulations prohibiting romantic relationships between employees, she almost admired Li Tang. Li Tang had gone all out for Ren Yan. To secure the position, she must have been prepared to resign after securing it.

Having prepared to leave since joining, her desire for Ren Yan was practically suicidal. Chu Qianmiao could sense Li Tang's devotion.

But none of this concerned her. What did matter was that the training ended tonight, and she would be packing her suitcase and embarking on her business trip early tomorrow morning.

She wanted to spend this final day of training peacefully, living the quiet life of an investment banker.

Unfortunately, Xia Fengyong, the eccentric subordinate in the eccentric Kan Qingzhou department, had to provoke her with his rude words.

During the training, Ren Yan could always hear a murmur of conversation in the last row of the conference room.

He knew it was coming from everyone in the back row, not just Chu Qianmiao and the others. But every time he looked back, they would always look like they had walked right into his trap, as if they had been caught chatting.

Since they had caught him, if he didn't deal with them, it would seem that he had become easygoing and lacked authority.

So, he called up the department's work group chat on his phone and ordered Chu Qianmiao, Qin Qianyu, and Liu Lifeng to each write a training summary.

The message went through, and three phones vibrated simultaneously in the back seat. He heard a faint gasp.

Great.

Glancing out the window, he thought the weather was quite nice today. Beijing's spring, if you ignored the flying willow catkins, was still a beautiful season.

He was about to put his phone back in his pocket when it vibrated in his palm.

He unlocked it and saw it was Li Tang.

Ah Yan, if it's convenient, please come to my office. I asked someone to bring some medicine for your grandmother from abroad.

He put his phone away, thought for a moment, then stood up and left the meeting room.

Ren Yan went to Li Tang's office.

Seeing him, Li Tang's beautiful, cold face broke into a rare smile.

She quickly stood up and ushered Ren Yan into the reception area on the sofa, where she sat opposite him.

She wore a long-sleeved white gauze shirt and a royal blue one-piece skirt, her hair tied up in a bun, a beautiful yet stylish professional look.

Handing a paper bag to Ren Yan, Li Tang said, "These are the medicine I asked someone to bring back from abroad. They're perfect for Grandma."

Ren Yan took the bag and said calmly, "Thank you, it's so thoughtful." He'd often bought medicine for Grandma while he was abroad, and she'd seen him, so she remembered him, and he was grateful.

After a pause, he asked, "How much is it? I'll transfer it to you."

Li Tang smiled, a little aggrieved, "Why bother calculating even this little money so carefully?"

Ren Yan insisted, "Small amounts can add up to a lot."

Li Tang couldn't resist, so she gave a figure. Ren Yan handed the money over, put away his phone, and didn't rush to leave.

They'd met when she reported for work that morning, and he'd been surprised she'd switched to Litong. But there were so many people around, so he couldn't ask too many questions.

So, now that they were alone, he asked Li Tang, "Why did you suddenly switch to Li Tong?"

Li Tang stared at him, her eyes sharp and unconcealed. "I want to win over the person I want. Because," she smiled, a smile of triumph, a smile of determination, "I don't have any time to hesitate any longer."

Ren Yan also looked her in the face.

She had been neither dodging nor avoiding his gaze, but somehow, the moment it met Ren Yan's gaze, she lost. She half-lowered her eyes, raised her right hand to pinch her earlobe, then raised her eyes again, tilted her head to smile at Ren Yan, and said, "Do you think I'm a little childish, like shouting slogans?"

Ren Yan looked at her, his expression unchanged, only his eyebrows raised slightly. Then he raised his hand and pointed at the cuff of her shirt, where her hand was pinching her earlobe. "A button's missing."

Li Tang was startled, then released her hand from her earlobe and turned her wrist to examine it. A row of four buttons, with the second one missing from the middle.

Li Tang lowered her arm, a bit embarrassed. "I don't know when it fell off."

With the button incident over, the previous topic was completely diverted. Ren Yan, holding the paper bag, thanked her again, stood up from the sofa, and prepared to leave.

Li Tang called him "Ah Yan," and the hesitant syllables were a silent but powerful plea to stay.

Ren Yan said to her, "I have something to run." After a pause, he suddenly said, "If the person you just said you wanted to win over is me, I'm sorry, Li Tang, I have to tell you clearly that we will never have the chance to be together again."

He was about to leave when Li Tang called him, "Ah Yan, why?"

Ren Yan looked at her, his eyes sharp and bright. He suddenly smiled, "You know the reason." After a pause, he said, "This is the last time I'll have a personal conversation with you in the office."

With that, he walked away, without hesitation or pause.

Li Tang chased him to the door.

She leaned against the doorframe, watching his back. A tall, handsome man, he walked with one hand in his pocket, his stride unwavering and unwavering. He was reserved and unrestrained, a rare breed. But he was so polite to her. He tried to distance themselves from them with politeness, which was truly frustrating.

Ren Yan wasn't making excuses; he had indeed gone out to run an errand. He'd dropped off some medicine for his grandmother. Her health had been failing in recent years, especially her memory. After instructing the nanny to take care of her and take her medicine, he left to run his errands.

The errand went smoothly, but for some reason, his mood remained bleak.

He drove to the office building and was just about to park when he received a call.

It was Qin Qianyu, his voice frantic and urgent, like someone being chased up a wall by a dog.

"Boss, where are you? Qian Miao and Xia Fengyong from Kan Qingzhou's department are arguing."

Ren Yan's heart skipped a beat. He parked the car, turned off the engine, and asked, "What's the fight about?"

He knew that after two years of experience, Chu Qianmiao had become a person with good sense and patience. Something must have angered her, causing her to get into an argument in the company.

Qin Qianyu quickly explained, "It's like this. Everyone was in training, and we were all tired, so Qian Miao volunteered to make us coffee. As she passed the front desk, she saw Xia Fengyong from Kan Qingzhou's department reporting to Mr. Wu Jin, the head of our investment banking department."

Qin Qianyu quickly reconstructed the scene for Ren Yan.
