Extra Chapter 2: Prologue

On the way to Nanjing, Xiao Chu kept sending WeChat messages. Zhuang Xu replied to a few emails on his phone, and glancing up, he caught a glimpse of his bright smile.

Xiao Chu noticed his gaze, immediately put her phone away, and nervously explained, "I don't have any work right now, so..."

"It's okay." "Xiao Chu relaxed, a little embarrassed, and said, "My girlfriend is texting me. She's also from A University, and hasn't graduated yet. She's talking to me about what to eat for supper."

Zhuang Xu nodded slightly. Xiao Chu thought he'd passed the test, but then he heard him ask, "Is He Sheng still open?"

Huh? Xiao Chu was a little confused.

It seems it's been closed for a long time. "What about Lao Lin's Rice Bowl?"

"Never heard of it." Xiao Chu scratched his head.

"That beef noodle shop at the North Gate?"

"That one is open." Xiao Chu nodded quickly, "My girlfriend and I go there often, but there's always a long queue." "

The boss seemed a little distracted again; the closer it got to the school anniversary, the more often he spaced out. Xiao Chu suddenly remembered the rumors his girlfriend had just shared on WeChat about his boss's university days.

Apparently, his boss had many female admirers back in school.

Xiao Chu, still retaining the naiveté and courage of a college student, immediately forgot his nervousness at being caught by his boss and couldn't suppress his curiosity, asking, "Mr. Zhuang, did many girls like you in college?"

Zhuang Xu seemed surprised by the question, looking up in astonishment. Meeting his cool gaze, Xiao Chu immediately regretted it. He was doomed; his question seemed incredibly inappropriate.

Just as he was regretting it, his boss answered him.

"I don't know, but..."

"But what?! Don't hold me back!" Xiao Chu dared not press further this time, but his eyes remained fixed on him, revealing immense curiosity.

"I did have a crush on a classmate."

"And then?" "Xiao Chu pressed on without hesitation. This time it wasn't that he was being reckless; his boss clearly wanted to talk and confide in him! He'd be a disobedient employee if he didn't press the issue.

"And then?"

His boss's gaze drifted slightly, and he smiled faintly, saying, "Later, she said it was just my imagination." "

Xiao Chu was utterly shocked.

What happened? His boss confessed and got rejected? How could that be? And the other person was so ruthless! Rejection is one thing, but to completely deny his feelings?

His gaze fell on the extremely handsome face before him, utterly bewildered. Putting aside how outstanding his boss was, just his height and looks alone—how could any girl reject him?

He couldn't help but think of his boss's legendary rise to wealth. Everyone knew his boss came from a poor background. Did that girl reject him because he was too poor during his school days?

That's incredibly short-sighted.

Xiao Chu immediately imagined a revenge-slapping plot from a fantasy novel—"Thirty years east of the river, thirty years west of the river; never underestimate a young man's potential." He said confidently and with satisfaction, "She must be regretting it now."

He was almost immediately refuted, "No, she's doing very well now."

Huh? Xiao Chu felt like he'd flattered someone who'd backfired, and his face flushed slightly.

The boss paused for a moment, then added, "Even if she's not, she won't regret it." Xiao Chu was filled with a thousand questions, his curiosity only growing stronger. What kind of girl was this, that he would still defend her so much after she rejected him?

But his boss clearly wasn't going to answer his questions. After saying that, he seemed to suddenly lose interest in the conversation, closing his eyes and leaning back in his chair.

Xiao Chu felt a little embarrassed for having flattered the wrong person, and decided to keep quiet for a while. However, after the car had driven a bit further, he heard his boss say softly, "It's my fault. If I can see her this time, I think I should apologize to her."
