Chapter 73.2: Integrating into the Team
The training ended with a dinner
party. With Ren Yan around, everyone seemed a little reserved. By the time the
party was over, it was already dark. Ren Yan said he wanted to leave, and
knowing he didn't like attending parties, they didn't try to persuade him to
stay.
Qin Qianyu suggested going to the
activity room, where they could play cards and sing karaoke. Everyone then said
"Goodbye, Mr. Ren" to Ren Yan and followed him to the activity room.
Ren Yan watched his men say goodbye
without even turning back, and stood there, feeling a bit amused and helpless.
He walked to the car and unlocked
the door. He opened it and closed it again, still outside.
He turned, leaned against the front
of the car, pulled out his cigarette case and flicked it out.
He lit it, puffed slowly, and
looked up at the sky. It didn't seem dark yet, as if it was still early.
After finishing his cigarette, he
stood up from the front of the car and locked it again.
He planned to go over to the
activity room for a look.
Ren Yan stood outside the activity
room, and through the glass door, he saw that the people inside were divided
into two groups. One group was singing karaoke, represented by Cui Xijie. The
other group was playing cards, with Liu Lifeng as the core figure. Qin Qianyu
was a card fanatic, locked in a fierce battle with Liu Lifeng.
Chu Qianmiao sat on the sofa,
isolated from the two groups, appearing calm, but her constant tucking of her
hair behind her ear betrayed her.
She always tucked her hair like
that when she was nervous, uneasy, or overwhelmed.
Ren Yan sighed silently and pushed
the door open.
Qin Qianyu, facing the door, was
the first to notice Ren Yan's arrival. He clutched a deck of cards in his hand,
and when he looked up, his jaw dropped, his jaw dropped.
"Leader, leader, is that you?
Is it really you? Are you here to play with us?"
Everyone turned around, and the
karaoke stopped, their jaws dropping.
Chu Qianmiao, sitting on the sofa,
looked up at Ren Yan as he walked past her. She watched him take off his coat
and drape it on the sofa, then walk over to the card table and sit down in the
chair Qin Qianyu had unceremoniously pulled out for him.
"Let's play Zha Jin Hua,"
he said. "I'll play a few rounds with you before I leave."
Everyone immediately erupted in
excitement. Those who were singing stopped, those who were playing cards
stopped, and everyone gathered around, ready to play Zha Jin Hua.
Ren Yan pushed Qin Qianyu, who was
blocking his view, aside and tapped the table with his fingers, attracting Chu
Qianmiao's attention. He looked at her and casually asked, "Do you know
how to play Zha Jin Hua? If you do, come along."
He sat at the card table, dressed
in a suit and tie, looking elegant. He raised one corner of his mouth, a smile
that seemed neither intentional nor unintentional, a combination of elegance
and sass.
Chu Qianmiao tucked her hair behind
her ear and stood up with a smile.
"I know how to play..."
After officially entering the Zha
Jin Hua game, Chu Qianmiao discovered that Ren Yan was truly suited to the
game. He mastered a deadpan expression, leaving everyone unsure of what cards
he held and whether they should go all the way with him.
He relied on his impassive demeanor
to bring everyone down and make them scream.
Chu Qianmiao, Qin Qianyu, and the
others huddled together for a discussion, deciding to unite and take on Ren
Baopi.
The enemy of my enemy is my friend.
Even Liu Lifeng temporarily forgot his dislike for Chu Qianmiao and formed a
brief united front with her to jointly launch the plan to take down Ren.
Chu Qianmiao was responsible for
disrupting the morale of the troops, spouting nonsense to gauge Ren Yan's
emotions, while Qin Qianyu was responsible for reading Ren Yan's
micro-expressions from these emotions. Meanwhile, Sun Yi used his phone to
search online for a micro-expression mapping chart to help Qin Qianyu sharpen
his skills before the battle.
After the round of dealing, Chu
Qianmiao raved to Ren Yan, "Mr. Ren, your tie today is absolutely
stunning! It wouldn't be worth it if you didn't have a pair of hands."
Ren Yan deadpanned, "Trying to
bluff me."
Chu Qianmiao humbly replied,
"No, no, I'm just in awe of your tie." After a pause, she suddenly
changed the subject, addressing him, "Senior, so you have a pair,
right?"
Ren Yan was shocked by the cunning
in Chu Qianmiao's eyes, and his heart trembled as he subconsciously agreed,
"Yes."
Qin Qianyu immediately shouted,
"Mr. Ren, you definitely have a pair. Don't follow me if you don't have
one."
Chu Qianmiao continued her
nonsense, "Mr. Ren, if handsomeness is divided into three levels—a pair
under 10 is handsome, a pair of 10 is handsome, and a pair over 10 is
handsome—I think you're at least a pair of 10."
Ren Yan's eyes were cold.
Qin Qianyu immediately said,
"I think the leader has a pair of tens or better."
Ren Yan glanced at him.
Sun Yi: "At least a pair of
jacks."
Ren Yan glanced at him again.
Liu Lifeng: "I bet it's a pair
of queens."
Ren Yan chuckled coldly. "If
you're playing with a card, at least try to hide it. Chu Qianmiao," he
suddenly called out, "you set an example for them."
Chu Qianmiao tapped the table
lightly with her fist. "Our CEO Ren must be incredibly handsome. He must
be as handsome as a pair of kings."
The others were stunned by her
flattery.
Ren Yan narrowed his eyes at her.
"If I don't have a pair of kings, how can you justify this?"
Everyone looked at Chu Qianmiao.
Chu Qianmiao's eyes rolled.
"If you have a pair of queens, I'll take all the kings. Anyway, your pair
must be the highest pair. You must have the most handsome pair."
Liu Lifeng, standing nearby, was
shocked.
Ren Yan couldn't help but laugh,
then shook his head, "Get ready to take the cards."
Qin Qianyu immediately announced to
everyone, "Mr. Ren has an 80% chance of a pair of queens. Any cards
smaller than that should be withdrawn, and any cards larger should be
formidable."
The others didn't follow suit, and
Liu Lifeng excitedly demanded to see Ren Yan's cards.
Ren Yan had a pair of queens, while
Liu Lifeng had three fives. He had won against Ren Yan. Qin Qianyu and Chu
Qianmiao high-fived, and Liu Lifeng and Qin Qianyu excitedly high-fived Chu
Qianmiao, then instinctively high-fived her. A look of regret washed over him,
but as he looked at the pile of money he'd won, he quickly forgot his regret.
After a few rounds of this, Ren Yan
was outnumbered and lost to everyone's united efforts, slowly losing all his
previous gains.
By the time the game was even, the
atmosphere had become harmonious and harmonious. Chu Qianmiao had blended in
with the crowd. She was witty and engaging, smart and quick-witted, and a
natural flatterer, earning everyone's approval. Even Liu Lifeng temporarily put
aside his prejudice against her and joined in with her, guessing Ren Yan's
cards.
After losing another round, Ren Yan
stood up.
"You guys play. I'm tired. I'm
leaving now."
That was enough. If he continued
losing, it would be too obvious.
Qin Qianyu stood up to see him off,
dragging Chu Qianmiao with him. But Ren Yan stopped him. "No one should
see me off. Just keep playing."
He walked out and got in the car.
Sitting in the car, he realized how
obedient his soldiers were. Even though he hadn't asked for them to, no one
came to see me off.
He was practically amused. After
all his careful planning all night, all he heard was a single
"Senior," and no one even offered to see me off.
The moonlight was like water. He
started the car and drove into the moonlight.
Chu Qianmiao played for a while
longer, then walked out of the activity room to answer the phone. It was Tan
Shen, who said he had just gotten off the plane from a business trip and missed
her terribly. He asked where she was and what she was doing. She answered each
question. After hanging up, she didn't go back into the room. The smell of
cigarettes inside was so thick it was almost solid, and she might as well go
out for a walk to get some fresh air.
Qin Qianyu suddenly called her.
He, too, had been drawn out by the
smoke from the room.
They walked side by side in the
moonlit open space, walking in circles and chatting.
After chatting about this and that
for a while, Qin Qianyu suddenly sighed, "Mr. Ren has good intentions. He
knows that Old Liu and the others have a prejudice against you and that you
can't get along, so he invited everyone to play poker together, and he even
deliberately tried to win first to provoke everyone to join you in taking on
him."
Chu Qianmiao exclaimed, "Wow,
that's actually what's going on!" as unpretentiously as possible.
Qin Qianyu glared at her.
"That's right. I was afraid you didn't realize it, so I came out to tell
you. Qianmiao, you need to be more careful. You need to know that Mr. Ren
treats you well, okay?"
Chu Qianmiao said softly,
"Okay."
Of course she knew.
As Chu Qianmiao and Qin Qianyu were
talking, a Porsche sped up the street and screeched to a halt beside them.
Tan Shen got out of the car,
standing tall and graceful in the moonlight, a bright smile on his face,
looking dusty.
His voice was thick with longing.
"Qianmiao, Teacher A Shen misses his students."
