Chapter 35.2: The Second Tears
Jia Leyuan's newly renovated air conditioning system was
malfunctioning. Today, the room wouldn't heat up, and it was as cold as the
refrigerator's freezer compartment. After lunch, Qin Qianyu and the others went
to the café, saying they wanted to get some warmth. Chu Qianmiao still had some
materials to write, so she went back to the office.
Chu Qianmiao admired herself; even in the chilly, almost icy
environment, she hadn't felt the drowsiness she'd experienced after lunch.
She worked on her materials for a while, then slumped over
the table, her head tilted to one side, and fell asleep on her arm.
This was the scene Ren Yan saw when he entered the room. The
bright, though not warm, midday sun shone down on the girl, who slumped over
the table with her eyes closed and her head tilted to one side. He walked back
to his desk with extremely light steps. He had told himself not to look up, but
he did anyway, as if possessed.
From the angle across from her, her long black hair flowed
down her back, half hanging down, half spread across the table. Her eyelashes
were like black brushes, curled upward at the tips. Her skin was so pale it
seemed almost transparent in the sunlight. Her nose and mouth were both so
delicate. Who could have imagined that such a delicate mouth could utter such
captivating words? He'd almost been knocked unconscious by her this morning.
He'd thought his inner peace had been restored and
reestablished after this period of separation, but he'd never expected that
when faced with her flattery, he could only respond with a lame, "Why did
you call me after work hours?"
The temperature in the room was very low. Although the girl
was wearing a coat, it was clearly not warm enough to keep her warm after she
fell asleep. She shivered with cold, but didn't wake. In her sleep, she curled
up, as if shrinking would bring her warmth.
That shrinking was like a blow, suddenly softening his
heart.
He slowly stood up, slowly took off his coat, and slowly
walked across.
Slowly, he covered her with the coat.
He stood beside her, looking down at her.
Her frown relaxed, and a hint of childish innocence and joy
graced her sleeping face. She seemed to be comfortably warm.
He suddenly thought, what kind of animal is she? Once she's
comfortable, her face becomes all innocent and adorable.
He didn't know how long he watched, perhaps only a moment,
when he heard the clatter of footsteps in the hallway. It must be Qin Qianyu
and the others returning.
A brief moment of nervousness washed over him, and he
reached up to pull back the coat covering her. In his haste, he pulled it back
a bit too hastily, seemingly scraping her hair. He quickly put the coat back on
himself and scurried back to his seat.
As he sat down, his heartbeat was so heavy and rapid that he
could almost hear the echo of it in his ears.
When Qin Qianyu entered the room, he saw Ren Yan sitting at
his desk, his brow slightly furrowed, diligently editing a document on his
computer.
Chu Qianmiao must have been asleep before they came in. She
had somehow woken up when they entered the room and was dazedly climbing up
from the table.
Seeing her dazed sleep, Qin Qianyu couldn't help but tease
her, "What's wrong, Qianmiao? Did you have a dream about getting rich?
Even after waking up, you can't accept reality?"
Chu Qianmiao looked down at her clothes, thought for a
moment, and then said to Qin Qianyu, "It's so strange! I felt like someone
was snatching my clothes and pulling my hair, so I woke up, but when I woke up,
my clothes were still on!"
Qin Qianyu chuckled, "How would you characterize this
dream? Was it a robbery or a rape?"
Chu Qianmiao scratched her head. "Strange! This dream
feels so real. My scalp is really numb." She looked up and asked Ren Yan
across from her, "Senior, oh no, President Ren, when I was asleep just
now... did I pull my own hair?"
Ren Yan glanced at her and said calmly, "I don't
know." After a pause, he added, "I didn't see you."
Chu Qianmiao: "..."
Oh.
You haven't even seen a living being like me! You're truly
blind.
In the afternoon, Zhou Shuqi arrived, groggily, to deliver
food. He'd heard from Zhang Teng that the due diligence site had been moved
from Litong Securities back to Jialeyuan, and he rushed over to try to get
close to Chu Qianmiao.
He acted cute and obedient, flattering Chu Qianmiao with
words like, "Senior, you are the light of my life," "Senior, you
are as beautiful as the moon," and "Senior, you are not gentle, but I
just like your lack of gentleness." He spoke these words without fear of
death or the nausea of others, spouting them without hesitation. Qin Qianyu
and the others were amused by his blatant declaration of secret love.
His clinginess nearly drove Chu Qianmiao over the edge. In
the end, Ren Yan dismissed him, saying he had to call a meeting.
Before speaking, Ren Yan deliberately checked his watch and
said, "Zhou Shuqi, huh? I've already given them fifteen minutes for a
coffee break to chat with you. Now I'm taking them to the meeting. Please make
your own arrangements."
He then tapped the table with his bare fist. Qin Qianyu and
the others, including Chu Qianmiao, immediately and in unison, gathered around
Ren Yan, chairs, and computers, in front of Zhou Shuqi.
As soon as the tight formation was complete, Ren Yan spoke:
"We're holding an intermediary coordination meeting this weekend. This
meeting is quite important, and I hope everyone will prepare well. At the
meeting, everyone will summarize the previous phase of work, the problems the
company has encountered so far, and the solutions..."
Everyone was busy taking notes, and no one paid any
attention to Zhou Shuqi.
Before leaving, Zhou Shuqi thought aggrievedly, "This
man is so annoying! His name isn't Zhou Qi."
Weird, isn't it! His name is Zhou Shuqi!!!
After banning Zhou Shuqi from Litong, Chu Qianmiao also
banned him from Jialeyuan.
Chu Qianmiao said to Zhou Shuqi, "You need to be smart.
Look at the due diligence office—five brokerage firms and one lawyer. It's
clearly not our home turf. It's inappropriate for you to wander around
somewhere we're not. Wait until you come across a project with five lawyers and
one brokerage firm, and then you can wander around again, okay?"
Zhou Shuqi reluctantly agreed. But even though he wasn't
physically present, he kept calling Chu Qianmiao's phone, using voice waves to
maintain his presence.
Chu Qianmiao wanted to temporarily block him, but couldn't
bring himself to do it. Zhou Shuqi wasn't actually that annoying. When they
spoke on the phone, he was always attentive and concerned, asking about her
well-being and informing her in advance about the next day's weather and the
recommended clothing recommendations. While these things could be easily found
online, she wouldn't have bothered to check them out if Zhou Shuqi hadn't told
her.
So, while the little brat was a bit nagging, Chu Qianmiao had no way to deal with this brat-like junior.
