Chapter 6.2: The Innocent Lawyer
As soon as Chu Qianmiao returned to the meeting room from
the restroom, Ren Yan, laptop in hand, followed by the accountants.
Chu Qianmiao looked up at Ren Yan.
He was truly handsome, handsome in face, handsome in hands,
and handsome in every way. He was dressed in a light black suit, tall and lean,
and his gait carried a unique energy—a subtle air of unassuming arrogance, a
nonchalant air of indifference.
This energy was exactly the same as it had been in school,
making him particularly memorable.
Chu Qianmiao suddenly realized she was dwelling on the past
again, breaking the code of conduct she'd established a few nights before:
"I've forgotten him too, I can't lose." She immediately punished
herself by pinching the inside of her thigh.
The pinch was a bit too harsh, and she couldn't help but
hunch over, gasping, and rubbing it covertly. When she looked up, her eyes met
Ren Yan's.
"Lawyer Chu, are you feeling sick?" Ren Yan
addressed her directly, amidst the crowd. "Don't worry about being sick in
this meeting; we have medicine."
Chu Qianmiao was startled by being called out, and quickly
smiled and said, "No, no, I just had a numb stomach."
Everyone laughed. Even Ren Yan's lips curled slightly. Chu
Qianmiao then realized she had just numb herself in a way that normally
wouldn't.
She wanted to pound her own IQ into submission.
The laughter died down, and the atmosphere brightened. The
intermediary coordination meeting began in a peaceful and joyful atmosphere.
Qin Qianyu sat next to Chu Qianmiao and whispered,
"Before meetings, President Ren always used me to lighten the mood. Now
that you're here, I'm free. Thank you! You're so cooperative! President Ren
doesn't even have to think of jokes; you just come up with them all!"
Chu Qianmiao: "…………" She nearly spat out blood.
What do your brokerage firm's meeting routines have to do
with me?! I'm just an innocent lawyer!

The meeting was once again chaired by Ren Yan. Because the
atmosphere was so good from the start, when he later coordinated the work of
the various agencies, they all accepted it harmoniously and happily.
Chu Qianmiao noted down every one of Ren Yan's arrangements
in the meeting minutes. He agreed with the accountants and appraisers on the
audit and appraisal benchmark date, and agreed on a timeline for the audit and
appraisal reports. He arranged for the attendees at Hanhai Home Textiles to
return and quickly sign an investment agreement with the private equity
investors to determine the equity structure. He also arranged for the
accountant to prepare the capital verification required upon completion of the
investment…
Finally, Ren Yan said to Zhang Teng, “Thank you for taking
Lawyer Chu with you to provide restructuring guidance for the company, drafting
the restructuring application documents, the sponsor agreement, the company
charter, and the legal opinion.”
He methodically arranged all the tedious matters.
Chu Qianmiao silently glanced up at Ren Yan midway through
the meeting minutes. She wondered if he was only five years older than her,
right? But how could he be so capable? He could do the work of several agencies
all by himself. She also wondered if she would be as capable as him in five
years, when she was his age now.

Just before the meeting ended, Ren Yan said, "If there
are no other questions, starting tomorrow, everyone will go to the company site
to conduct preliminary due diligence. Manager Qin Qianyu will be in charge of
the project site at our brokerage firm, and I'll be there frequently." He
then instructed Qin Qianyu, "Please liaise with Lawyer Chu regarding any
legal matters."
After instructing Qin Qianyu, he turned his gaze to Chu
Qianmiao and said, "We've already sent you some electronic documents from
the company. You can review them first. Make a list of any missing materials
and complete them as soon as you arrive on-site."
After a moment's thought, he added, "I'll also be
on-site tomorrow. To expedite the process, Lawyer Zhang, please review the
company's basic information and relevant qualifications tonight. We'll review
them tomorrow to see if there are any issues."
Zhang Teng replied, "Okay."
Having finished explaining everything, Ren Yan dismissed the
meeting without further ado. While Chu Qianmiao was packing, Zhang Teng went to
the stairwell to smoke. Qin Qianyu waited for Ren Yan to leave the meeting room
before approaching Chu Qianmiao and asking, "By the way, Qianmiao, I
wanted to ask you, did you say anything to Mr. Ren yesterday? I saw him
grinning with his forehead propped up after he called you. He didn't laugh out
loud, but I've never seen him laugh so hard before. I'm so curious!"
Chu Qianmiao: "………………"
Brother, let's forget about yesterday and embrace the
future, okay?
She smiled stiffly and said stubbornly, "I think you
might have seen it wrong!!!"
