Chapter 166: A Happy Ending~Part 11

It was April again, still that most comfortable month, not too cold, not too hot.

Sitting in her study, An Ran took a final look at the blueprints. After ensuring every detail was correct, she rolled them up, preparing to deliver them to Xudong later that day. Taking off her glasses, An Ran, her hands on her waist, stood up from her swivel chair.

In reality, the reason she'd taken on Xudong's case was entirely because of Ye Ziwen. The day after An Ran and Su Yicheng's wedding, Ye Ziwen had actually cheated on Su Yijiao and gone directly to the Civil Affairs Bureau to get their marriage certificate. Upon their return, the two immediately announced their travel plans. And true to form, on the third day after registering and getting their marriage certificate, they packed their bags and began their journey. This unexpected news nearly infuriated Ye Ziwen's uncle, Xiao Yuanshan, to the point of vomiting blood. It turned out that Ye Ziwen hadn't even finished his work and had gone off to "travel around the world." Because of this, Xiao Yuanshan had come to the Su family to complain. He also specifically requested An Ran's help, saying she only needed to help Xudong complete the case, with no time limit. Qin Yun couldn't refuse outright, so she simply said she had no objection as long as Anran was willing.

An Ran had actually always wanted to pick up a pencil and draw blueprints again, but her pregnancy had disrupted all her plans. After a few months of recuperation, she had grown tired of the routine of eating, sleeping, waking up, and waiting for more. So, when Xiao Yuanshan offered her the opportunity, An Ran was immediately tempted. So, when Xiao Yuanshan approached her, she readily agreed.

Su Yicheng was initially opposed to An Ran taking on Xudong's case, but Anran insisted, promising that it wouldn't tire her out, and he reluctantly agreed. Four months passed, and this part-time drawing job at home.

An Ran was already over nine months pregnant. According to the doctor's calculations, her due date was about a week away. However, because she was carrying twins, her belly was about a size larger than normal. Fearing a difficult birth, the doctor advised her to move around regularly to aid labor. So now, whenever An Ran sat for a while, she would get up and walk around.

Walking to the window, she suddenly felt the baby inside her belly give her a hard kick. It still hurt slightly. Looking down at her round, almost-exploding belly, her face filled with doting, she reached out and gently stroked it, a happy smile in the corner of her eyes.

Looking up at the still-blue sky and the still-bustling streets outside the window, she couldn't help but sigh, over how time flies. A year had already flown by unnoticed. Thinking back to this time last year, she was still being forced by her mother to go on blind dates everywhere, even going out for a week straight to dinner with men of different jobs and ages, getting to know each other.

Life is truly unpredictable. It's only been a year, and she's already swelled with pregnancy, poised to become a mother of two in just a few days. A year ago, she never imagined this would be the outcome she's facing, but thankfully, it's a happy one.

"Knock, knock, knock." Aunt Li, the newly hired confinement nanny, entered with a glass of milk. She looked at An Ran and said with a smile, "Madam, Mayor Su just called and told you to drink this glass of milk."

Aunt Li was Su Yicheng's latest confinement nanny. He was worried that An Ran was about to give birth, and that Mrs. Zhang wouldn't be able to handle two babies, so he'd hired her ahead of time to familiarize her with the family situation.

An Ran gave a somewhat helpless smile, reached out to take the milk from Aunt Li, and sipped it. She was truly overwhelmed by Su Yicheng. She didn't know if it was because he was about to meet his children and become a father, but Su Yicheng had been a little overly nervous these past few days. Besides always spending hours whispering to her belly every night after returning home, he also stayed by her side whenever he got home from get off work.

And just like now, even though he was at work, he still didn't forget to call home, asking Aunt Li or Aunt Zhang to remind An Ran to drink her milk.

Seeing her drinking the milk, Aunt Li dragged the tray out of the study.

An Ran stood for a long time, feeling tired, and moved towards the sofa, ready to sit down and rest.

Suddenly, she felt a sharp pain in her stomach. She couldn't even hold the milk cup held by the leader, and it fell to the ground with a thud, spilling the white liquid and the glass. An Ran leaned on the armrest of the sofa, trying to keep from falling, but the pain in her stomach made it difficult for her to stand.

Aunt Li, who was cleaning the living room outside, heard something coming from the study and quickly dropped the rag she was holding. She rushed in. She pushed open the door and saw An Ran slumped on the floor, her hands clutching her stomach, her expression visibly distressed.

She hurried forward and nervously asked, "Madam, what's wrong? Did you fall?"

An Ran shook her head, her entire body in pain, breathless. Her chest heaving as she spoke with some difficulty, "Aunt Li, I think I'm going to give birth. My water's broken." Pains surged through her stomach, forcing her to cling tightly to Aunt Li's hand.

Aunt Li looked down and saw a puddle on the floor. It looked like she was indeed giving birth. She shouted out, "Mrs. Zhang, Madam, she's going to give birth!"

When Su Yicheng received the call, he was in a meeting about the construction of the Qingjiang Bridge. Seeing it was a call from home, Su Yicheng, who rarely answered calls during meetings, broke with the norm and reached for the phone on the table, answering it directly. "Hello... What? I'll be right there!" Without even explaining, not even bothering to pick up the documents and materials on the table, he dashed out of the meeting room, leaving everyone bewildered.

Everyone turned their heads in confusion to Secretary Zheng, who had been accompanying Su Yicheng, and asked, "Secretary Zheng, what's going on?"

Secretary Zheng was also bewildered, shaking his head, indicating he had no idea what was going on.

When Su Yicheng arrived at the hospital, An Ran was still in the ward and hadn't entered the delivery room. Gu Hengwen and Lin Xiaofen had already arrived, and Qin Yun had also been notified and was on her way.

Su Yicheng pushed the door open and saw An Ran sprawled on her side, clutching the sheets beneath her due to the pain in her stomach, her face a frown of pain. Su Yicheng hurried forward, grasped her hand, and whispered, "Anran, Anran... Didn't you say your due date was in a week? Why are you giving birth now?"

Anran opened her eyes and looked at him. The cramps in her stomach made her speechless. She could only hold his hand tightly, saying with some difficulty, "You, you do it."

"Yes, yes, I'm coming," Su Yicheng replied hurriedly. However, seeing her tormented by the pain, he couldn't help but ask with a touch of heartache and anxiety, "Why aren't you in the delivery room yet? Didn't you say your waters have broken? Why aren't you coming in yet?"

"The doctor said her cervix isn't dilated yet. We have to wait," Mrs. Zhang answered truthfully.

"Then when? It hurts so much!" Su Yicheng said anxiously, his tone no longer as gentle as usual.

Lin Xiaofen soothed, "Acheng, don't worry. We know you're worried about Ranran, but childbirth is like this for all women. How can you give birth without pain? Some people even go through pain for a whole day and a whole night." Lin Xiaofen had already recovered. The hair she had shaved off during surgery had grown back, and she looked like she did before her illness. She also said her eyesight seemed better recently, and she could even hold a needle and thread a needle without any problems.

"A whole day and a whole night!" Su Yicheng's eyes widened. What a torture that must have been! Turning to look at Anran, his eyes were filled with pity and reluctance.

Lin Xiaofen looked at Anran, who was sweating from the pain on the bed, and said with some concern, "Ranran, do you want to eat something? You'll need to be strong when you give birth later."

Anran shook her head and said, "I, I have no appetite." She felt only pain now, a sinking pain, as if something inside her was about to fall.

Lin Xiaofen asked Aunt Li to go get her some porridge. Giving birth takes so much effort, and Anran was pregnant with two. If she didn't have enough energy by then, it would be terrible. So, after her labor pains subsided, she had to eat something.

"Anran, let's do a C-section!" Unable to bear the sight of her in such pain, Su Yicheng smiled and could only think of this. As long as it would ease her pain, he would do anything.

Anran shook her head, watching his chest rise and fall violently. "Doctor, the doctor said a natural birth is possible. It's better for the baby!" Every child is a mother's treasure, and every mother naturally wants the best for them. Knowing that a natural birth is best for her baby, she would grit her teeth and push through it, no matter how hard or painful it was.

"But you're in so much pain. I don't want you to suffer like this. I can't bear it." He brought her hand to his lips and kissed it softly, his eyebrows practically touching.

"Then be nicer to me next time." An Ran forced a smile, but the pain in her stomach made her frown deepen again.

"Mm-hmm!" Su Yicheng nodded firmly, no doubt about that. He grasped her hand tightly, brought it to his lips and kissed it, then asked with some heartache, "Does it still hurt?" If he could, he would be willing to suffer for her!

"This child." Lin Xiaofen glanced at him with a smile and said, "Giving birth is always painful." Turning to Mrs. Zhang, she asked, "Have you brought everything you need?"

Mrs. Zhang nodded quickly and said, "Yes, I have." An Ran's sudden labor had really thrown everyone into a scramble, but thankfully, they had prepared everything beforehand. The baby's clothes, diapers, and other items needed for the birth were all gathered together; they just had to put them in a bag.

After the pain subsided, An Ran was able to lie down and sit up a bit, feeling a little more relaxed. Aunt Li came in at this time, bringing some porridge and a few side dishes for An Ran to eat first.

But An Ran had no appetite at the moment. She just shook her head weakly and said, "I can't eat."

"Ran Ran, you need strength to give birth. You're so exhausted from the pain now, what will you do when you give birth later? So even if you don't have an appetite, you should eat something."

"Yes, ma'am, giving birth is all about strength. If you don't have the strength, it will be painful for both adults and children," Aunt Li said with experience.

Su Yicheng looked at her and coaxed her, "Be good, let's eat something, okay?"

An Ran nodded. For the sake of the two babies in her belly, she also tried to force herself to eat more.

Seeing her nod, Su Yicheng was delighted and said, "I'll feed you." He reached for the porridge Aunt Li had poured and fed her mouthful by mouthful with a spoon. Afraid it might be too hot, he gently placed each morsel against her lips, each movement careful and cautious.

Lin Xiaofen and Gu Hengwen stood nearby, smiling with relief.

As she ate, another pain shot through her stomach, a new round of pains beginning. She opened her mouth and downed the porridge he had placed before her, her brow furrowed.

"What's wrong? Is it hurting again?" Su Yicheng looked at her nervously.

Anran clutched the sheets tightly in pain, trying not to let him. However, she still managed to force a smile at Su Yicheng, saying, "Feed me some more porridge." Her voice began to tremble, but for her child, a mother's strength always remained uncommon at such times.

Su Yicheng could only feel heartbroken and anxious, unable to offer any assistance. He thought to himself that when the two little babies in her belly came out, he would definitely spank them. They would not let them make their mother suffer like this!
