Chapter 166: A Happy Ending~Part 6
In a daze, An Ran could only hear someone whispering her name in her ear, but she was too tired, her eyelids too heavy, to open them.
An Ran didn't know how long she slept, but she felt someone
constantly changing the towel on her forehead while she slept, and their hands
caressing her face lovingly. The feeling was familiar, just like the way Su
Yicheng always touched her face, so gentle and careful.
She drowsily opened her eyes, feeling embraced by a warm,
familiar embrace. The handsome face before her made her feel even more dazed.
An Ran felt as though her cold had confused her. She had the illusion that Su
Yicheng was right beside her, just like he often did, holding her like this and
letting her sleep peacefully in his arms.
"Am I dreaming?" An Ran whispered softly, reaching
out to touch his face uncertainly. The real touch made her feel a little
unreal, and she murmured, "How can this dream be so real?"
At her touch, the sleeping person slowly opened his eyes.
Seeing that she was awake, a joyful smile appeared on his face. He reached out
to touch her forehead, confirming that the temperature had subsided. A
beautiful smile spread across his lips. Before An Ran could react, he pulled
her into a hug, holding her tightly. He whispered in her ear, "That's
great, the fever is finally gone."
After being held like this for a long time, feeling the
warmth from his body, An Ran slowly came to her senses. She reached out to push
him away, staring at the man in front of her with wide eyes in surprise.
"You, you..." For a moment, she was truly speechless.
Su Yicheng smiled, reached out and pinched her delicate
nose, saying, "It's me."
An Ran was still a little confused. She hadn't yet
comprehended why a man who was supposed to be in the other hemisphere was now
here!
After laughing, Su Yicheng took her hand and placed it
directly in his mouth, biting down hard on her fingertips. The instant pain
from her fingertips brought An Ran, who was still half-conscious, back to
consciousness. She frowned in pain and struggled to withdraw her hand.
"Is this how you take care of yourself?" Su
Yicheng's expression was a little serious, and he looked genuinely angry.
An Ran looked at him with a hint of innocence. She hadn't
even gotten over the confusion of why he was there, and now she was about to be
burned by his anger without knowing the truth.
Looking at her innocent eyes, Su Yicheng could only sigh. He
reached out and hugged her again, stroking her long, smooth hair. He whispered
softly in her ear, "Anran, you scared me to death, you know that?"
She reached out and hugged him tightly, calling his name
softly, "Yicheng..."
"Do you know you have a fever of over 39 degrees
Celsius?" Thinking about it now terrifies him. He could hear the
helplessness in her voice yesterday, so he didn't think much of it and booked
the earliest flight that night, packed his things, and headed straight to New
York. It was only when he arrived at the hospital that he learned she had a
cold. Her mother said it was serious. Without giving it a second thought, he
rushed straight from the hospital to the hotel. Upon entering, he found her
lying uncomfortably on the bed, clutching the phone and mumbling something. He
reached out to her forehead and realized it was incredibly hot. He panicked,
completely at a loss for what to do. He called his mother for help, asking for
her experience in nursing care. He also knew her condition was special and no
medication was allowed, so he could only keep changing her towels to lower her
temperature.
"I, I don't know..." An Ran shook her head. She
had no idea. She thought it was just a cold that would clear up in a few days.
"Thank goodness, thank goodness you came," Su
Yicheng whispered, hugging her. The thought of it all made her dreadful. If he
hadn't come, if she'd been left alone in the hotel, she wouldn't have known
what had happened. But thankfully, thankfully, everything was alright now.
Bending his head, he kissed her hair, his heart finally
settling.
In his arms, An Ran squeezed him tighter, her soft voice
echoing from her chest, "Yicheng, is this really you? Are you really
here?" It still felt unbelievable.
Su Yicheng chuckled, his hand resting on her hair, and he
nodded in her ear, "Yes, it was me."
Buried in his chest, An Ran's lips curved into a faint
smile, her hands clasping him tighter.
The two of them hugged each other for a long moment before
Su Yicheng finally released her. He gently stroked her face and asked,
"Are you hungry?"
An Ran smiled faintly and nodded vigorously. She was indeed
hungry. She had barely eaten anything all day, and her stomach was utterly
empty.
"I'll go get them some porridge," Su Yicheng said
as he sat up and got out of bed.
"You'll eat with me." An Ran knew he hadn't eaten
since getting off the plane, and with her in such a state, he hadn't been able
to take care of himself.
Su Yicheng turned and stroked her head before grabbing the
phone and ordering room service, specifically instructing them to make the
porridge fresh.
It was half an hour later when the hotel finally finished
cooking the porridge as Su Yicheng had requested. Along with it, Su Yicheng's
own Italian pasta was served.
It was almost 9 p.m. when they finished dinner. She called
Mrs. Zhang to ask about Lin Xiaofen's condition. Hearing that everything was
fine, She felt relieved.
They both went to bed early that night, Su Yicheng because
of jet lag, and An Ran because she was still a little weak from her cold.
The next day at noon was Lin Xiaofen's surgery. When they
arrived at the hospital that morning, Lin Xiaofen had already had her hair
shaved. She looked quite healthy and joked with An Ran about whether she looked
ugly that way.
Before the surgery, Gu Hengwen, who was far away in
Jiangcheng, called An Ran. His nervousness and fear were palpable, and he
repeatedly urged An Ran to call him immediately after the surgery to let him
know the results.
At 11 a.m., Lin Xiaofen was wheeled into the operating room.
An Ran, Su Yicheng, and Mrs. Zhang waited outside.
An Ran's palms were cold and sweaty. Su Yicheng held her
hand. She still coughed slightly, her throat slightly inflamed, but she no
longer looked as pale and frightening as she had yesterday. Mrs. Zhang was
worried that she was too tired waiting outside while pregnant, so she asked her
to go back and rest. But An Ran refused to leave, insisting she waited for Lin
Xiaofen to come out.
Time ticked by. Five and a half hours into the surgery, the
operating room door suddenly opened, and a female nurse rushed out with blood
on her hands. An Ran stood up immediately, grabbed the departing nurse, and
anxiously asked how the surgery was going. The nurse didn't bother to answer,
simply shaking off An Ran's hand and running forward. When she returned, her
hands were covered in two bags of bright red blood. An Ran felt dizzy and
almost fell. Fortunately, Su Yicheng supported her from behind, hugging her
shoulders and reassuring her that everything would be fine.
"Mom..." She clutched Su Yicheng's hand tightly,
her entire body trembling with worry. When she turned to look at him, tears
welled in her eyes. "Mom will be fine, right?"
Su Yicheng nodded, pulled her into his arms, and held her
tightly, whispering reassurance in her ear, "It's going to be fine, it's
going to be fine!"
Leaning in his arms, An Ran nodded, her hand tightly
grasping Su Yicheng's waist.
Mrs. Zhang sighed and shook her head, muttering nothing but
words of blessing.
On the other side of the world, Gu Hengwen also stayed awake
all night, sitting alone in his living room, staring at his phone on the low
table. He was afraid to miss a call or a text.
After waiting all night, calculating the time, it had been
nearly seven hours since Lin Xiaofen had gone into surgery in the US. An Ran
still hadn't called. He had a nagging feeling of foreboding, a vague worry. He
wanted to pick up his phone and call An Ran, but every time he dialed the
number, he backed off, unable to muster the courage. He was too afraid, too
afraid of hearing bad news.
The waiting time always seemed to drag on, every minute and
every second an ordeal.
The sky in the east gradually broke. Today's weather seemed
good. The morning glow dyed the sky red, and the sun slowly rose from the east.
Gu Hengwen's gaze rested once again on the phone on the low table. It had been
nearly eight hours since Lin Xiaofen had gone into surgery, and An Ran still
hadn't called.
Anxiety surged in his heart, and irritability and uneasiness
overtook all his previous rationality. He couldn't calm down and reason. He
grabbed his phone and prepared to call An Ran, but just as he lifted it, it
began to ring. It was An Ran calling. Looking at the flashing caller ID on the
screen, Gu Hengwen suddenly felt timid again. He was suddenly terrified of
hearing bad news after answering the phone. He was terrified, terrified!
The phone rang over and over in his hand. He held it
tightly, but he couldn't find the courage to reach out and press the answer
button. He didn't dare. He really didn't dare!
An Ran called again and again, but no one answered. She
stamped her feet in anger and anxiety, muttering, "What's going on? Why
isn't anyone answering the phone?" as she paced back and forth.
Su Yicheng, standing by, smiled and took the phone from An
Ran. He touched her face and said, "Go see Mom first. I'll call Dad to
tell him the good news."
Yes, after eight hours, Lin Xiaofen's surgery was finally
declared a complete success by the doctor. Although she accidentally cut a
complex network of blood vessels during the procedure, she was not in danger of
death thanks to timely treatment.
When the doctor rushed into the operating room to announce
the success, An Ran almost fainted with joy. It was a sudden surge of
overwhelming joy after a surge of anxiety, a joy that was almost too much to
handle.
After digesting the news, An Ran immediately thought of
calling Gu Hengwen, but after a long while, no one seemed to answer.
An Ran glanced at Su Yicheng with a hint of resignation,
nodded, and headed towards Lin Xiaofen's ward.
Su Yicheng didn't call Gu Hengwen again. He could somewhat
understand his current feelings: the mix of worry and the desire to know.
He called up Gu Hengwen's phone number and directly typed a
text message to send it to him. He knew that within a minute of receiving the
message, Gu Hengwen would call him back.
Just as Su Yicheng had guessed, less than a minute, only
thirty seconds after the message was sent, Gu Hengwen called.
Su Yicheng picked up the phone with a chuckle. Before he
could say anything, Gu Hengwen spoke first, "Anran, is that true? The
operation was a success, wasn't it? Your mom is okay now, isn't she?" He
asked a series of questions. Even through the phone, Su Yicheng could hear his
joy.
Su Yicheng chuckled and nodded, saying, "Dad, don't
worry. Mom is fine. Nothing serious."
Hearing Su Yicheng's voice, Gu Hengwen became a little
excited and said, "Ah Cheng, you're in America too?!"
"Yeah, I've been busy lately. I was worried about
Anran, so I came to see her," Su Yicheng said, somewhat truthfully.
"Okay, okay," Gu Hengwen said repeatedly, his
entire body relaxed. "It's good that everything's fine. It's good that
everything's fine. I'm relieved to have you here."
Su Yicheng smiled on the other end of the line and said with
some concern, "Dad, you haven't slept all night, right? Go get some sleep
this morning."
"Okay, okay," Gu Hengwen nodded repeatedly. He'd
been nervous and worried all night, and now that he had no classes in the
morning, he figured he could finally get some sleep, without having to worry
about getting up and hearing some bad news. Something occurred to him, and he
asked, "By the way, did the doctor say when she can be discharged? When
will you be back?"
"Not yet, but we'll need at least some observation
after the surgery. I don't think it'll be that soon," Su Yicheng said,
merely speculating.
"Oh," Gu Hengwen nodded. Although he desperately
wanted to see Lin Xiaofen, he also knew that he needed to observe her closely
after the surgery. He nodded and said, "Yes, we need to observe her
closely. As long as she's okay, she's okay." Being okay was more important
than anything else.
After a few more words on the phone, Gu Hengwen finally hung
up.
