Chapter 166: A Happy Ending~Part 2
When she woke up again, it was already the next morning. It
was already bright outside, and the sunlight streamed in through the gauze
curtains. Although not glaring, it still made it difficult for An Ran to open
her eyes. She raised her hand to block the glare, but the sleepiness was still
strong, and she couldn't help but yawn.
After her eyes finally adjusted to the brightness, An Ran
slowly lowered her hand and looked to the side. The man beside her was gone,
and the bed beside her was already cold and lifeless.
Turning to look at the alarm clock on the bedside table, it
was almost 10 o'clock. Next to the bedside table, someone had thoughtfully
prepared some clothes. With a gentle smile, An Ran threw off the covers, stood
up, grabbed the prepared change of clothes, and went straight to the bathroom.
After washing up and changing clothes, she came out. The two
little ones were protesting, growling in her stomach. She kindly reached out
and touched her belly, smiling softly, saying, "Okay, Mommy's going to get
the babies something to eat."
As soon as she reached the bar, she saw a note on the
counter. The words were bold and powerful: "Breakfast is in the fridge.
Pour yourself a glass of milk and heat it up before eating." - Cheng Liu!
It wasn't some sweet, tender remark, just a simple,
purposeful statement that couldn't be simpler, yet it was warm and
heartwarming. The plain words evoked a sweetness.
Opening the refrigerator, An Ran found the sandwich Su
Yicheng had prepared for her, wrapped in plastic wrap so it would still taste
fresh even after heating.
An Ran obediently poured herself some milk and placed it in
the microwave along with the sandwich. When the microwave beeped, her phone in
the room rang. It was the special ringtone she had set for Su Yicheng. She knew
it was him calling, so she wouldn't miss it no matter how busy she was.
She strode into the room, grabbed the phone from the bedside
table, and answered it immediately. The smile on her lips etched itself into
her voice. "Hello." Her sweet, kind heart was palpable even from the
sound of her voice.
"Are you up?" Su Yicheng's voice on the other end
was gentle and pleasant.
"Yeah." An Ran took the phone and walked back out
of the room.
"Have you had breakfast?" Su Yicheng seemed to be
outside, and the surroundings were a bit noisy.
"Just getting ready." She pulled the sandwich out
of the microwave, took a sip from the hot milk, and closed her eyes in a state
of enjoyment. She casually asked, "Are you at the construction site? It's
so noisy." Then she took a big bite of the sandwich in her hand. It was
exactly the taste she loved. After so many breakfasts, she always felt that Su
Yicheng's cooking was the best. Perhaps it wasn't just his craftsmanship, but
more importantly, it carried his affection for her, something no one else could
give her.
"Okay, I'll go check on the project," Su Yicheng
explained simply. "I'll be back at noon, and we'll go to the hospital
together this afternoon."
"Yeah," An Ran nodded, her mouth full of his
sandwich.
Su Yicheng on the other end of the phone seemed to be able
to imagine her current state, and couldn't help but laugh, but he still said
with concern, "Eat slowly. If you can't swallow it all, drink some
milk."
She had indeed been eating quite large mouthfuls. An Ran
took a sip of milk before swallowing all the food in her mouth. She called out
sweetly into the phone, "Su Yicheng!" Calling him by his full name
was the most common way they addressed him when they first met and got married.
Back then, someone was particularly petty and dissatisfied with such a name.
Now, thinking back on it, it was surprising to realize how quickly time flies.
"Yeah, I'm here," Su Yicheng replied with a smile.
What had seemed like overly polite address at the time now sounded quite
amusing. The name hadn't changed; what had changed was the friendship and
feeling between them.
"Your breakfast is delicious," An Ran said loudly,
a bit childishly, accompanied by a hearty laugh.
Su Yicheng smiled on the other end of the phone, his mood
brightening with her words. Holding the phone, he said to An Ran with a doting
tone, "Then you'll eat it for a lifetime!" It was a promise in
disguise, his tone sincere.
An Ran smiled, her eyes suddenly warming. She didn't reach
out to wipe them, but nodded earnestly and said, "If you're willing to do
this for me for a lifetime, I'll eat it for a lifetime!" Tears streamed
down her cheeks, but a smile remained on her lips, sweet and happy.
"Okay!" Su Yicheng nodded solemnly on the other
end of the phone.
Then the two held the phone, neither speaking nor hanging
up, just smiling quietly.
She understood his meaning, and he knew what she meant.
There was no need for explanation, because their souls were connected.
After booking their flight tickets and packing their
belongings, An Ran accompanied Lin Xiaofen on their trip to the United States
the next morning. Everything had been arranged, not just the hospital but also
the people who would take care of An Ran and the others.
For this reason, Su Yicheng called Zhou Han again for the
first time in nearly eight years since the incident, asking him to help arrange
An Ran and Lin Xiaofen's affairs and daily life in the United States for the
time being.
Zhou Han barely considered it, agreeing immediately upon
receiving the call. He then called his friends back home. After all, he had
been there for over seven years and still had a few genuine friends.
An Ran's flight was at 12:00 noon, flying directly from
Jiangcheng to New York, USA. The flight took about 14 hours. Since the time
difference between Jiangcheng and the US was exactly 12 hours, the plane
arrived in New York around 2:00 PM local time, allowing them to go directly to
Zhou Han's American friends to complete the hospitalization procedures.
Although even now, Lin Xiaofen still disagreed with An Ran
accompanying her to New York, the fact was irreversible, and she had no choice
but to let An Ran accompany her.
In addition to An Ran, Su Yicheng also specifically asked
Mrs. Zhang to accompany him. After all, An Ran was pregnant and had a large
belly, which often made things difficult for her. Having Mrs. Zhang by her side
would ease the burden on An Ran.
Gu Hengwen looked a little nervous, holding Lin Xiaofen's
hand tightly the entire way, but he said nothing.
It was still early when they arrived at the airport. After
checking their luggage, they sat in the waiting hall waiting. Gu Hengwen held
Lin Xiaofen's hand tightly, his eyes fixed on An Ran. He urged An Ran to take
good care of her mother after arriving in the United States. Still feeling a
little worried, he finally couldn't help but say, "Xiao Fen, why don't I
go with you?"
Lin Xiaofen patted his hand amusedly, knowing he was worried
about her. He had been like this since she was discharged from the hospital
yesterday, always holding her hand tightly, just like that. Without saying
anything, she smiled and said, "I'm fine. I'll take care of myself.
Besides, I have An Ran and Mrs. Zhang by my side. I'll be fine." Even
though she had met such terrible men in the first half of her life and life had
dealt her so many heartless blows, she was always grateful for meeting Gu
Hengwen. She always felt that God had been kind to her. She could say that
meeting Gu Hengwen was the luckiest thing that had happened to her. Even if she
couldn't make it this time, she had no regrets. His love for her over the years
was enough. There was nothing left to be dissatisfied or regretful about.
"I'm still worried. I'll go with you," Gu Hengwen
said, looking at Su Yicheng. "Ah Cheng, can you still book a flight?"
Before Su Yicheng could say anything, Lin Xiaofen
interrupted, "Have you forgotten you're teaching the graduating class? You
can't just leave like that. Don't forget you're responsible for the future of
so many children." Her tone was slightly serious.
Seeing this, Su Yicheng tugged at An Ran's hand from under
the table and said, "I'll go get something to drink."
An Ran came to her senses, stood up, and said, "I'll go
with you."
Su Yicheng smiled, held out his hand, and led her away.
"Daddy loves Mommy very much." His hand was held
in his large palm, his fingers playfully rubbing circles in his palm.
He felt a little itchy from her tickling, and he tightened
his grip punishingly, holding her hand tightly to prevent her from making any
more small movements. He whispered, "Yeah."
The unwavering love between Gu Hengwen and Lin Xiaofen was
truly enviable. Decades on, they still loved each other wholeheartedly. Such a
sentiment was truly moving.
Although his mother's relationship with his father was good,
it was different from this one. Their relationship, though good, was sometimes
filled with arguments. If he truly longed for a particular kind of
relationship, the love between Gu Hengwen and Lin Xiaofen was what he had
always sought.
As they walked, An Ran suddenly stopped. Su Yicheng turned
around, puzzled, and looked at her, raising an eyebrow and asking, "What's
wrong?"
An Ran turned to look at Gu Hengwen and Lin Xiaofen sitting
in the distance. Mrs. Zhang had left at some point, under what pretext. Gu
Hengwen still held Lin Xiaofen's hand, his expression filled with worry and
nervousness, evident to outsiders.
It took a moment for him to look away. When he turned back
to Su Yicheng, he looked her in the eye intently and asked, "Do you think
we'll become like our parents when we get old?"
Su Yicheng smiled, shook his head, and said nothing.
Seeing this, An Ran's face stained with disappointment. She
simply asked, "Won't you treat me like Daddy treats Mommy?"
Su Yicheng knew her little mind was wandering again. He
reached out and rubbed her head, then pulled her into a hug and whispered in
her ear, "I just don't want you to experience the same pain Mommy is going
through." Su Yicheng was referring to Lin Xiaofen's current illness.
Hearing this, An Ran was stunned for a moment before she
smiled. Still stubbornly demanding an answer, she asked, "Well, if I won't
get sick, will you become as kind as Daddy? Will you love me as much as Mommy
does? Then you won't mind me getting older, with more wrinkles on my face, a
worse figure, or looking uglier, will you?"
Su Yicheng hugged her and chuckled, as if he had heard a
really funny joke.
An Ran reached out and patted his shoulder, saying
coquettishly, "Don't laugh, will you?"
Even though An Ran forbade him, Su Yicheng still laughed for
a long time before he stopped. He held her hand and gently stroked her hair.
Then he slowly said, "No, I will love you even more and cherish you even
more, so that you won't despise me as a boring old man and abandon me."
An Ran giggled, her heart seemed good, but she still said
coquettishly, "You are deliberately trying to coax me, aren't you?"
"No, you said you would "If you get old, I will
too. You'll get wrinkles, and I'll probably get even more. I'll lose my teeth,
my hair will turn gray, and no matter how much I run, I'll never be in the
shape I am now. By then, I guess all I can do is think about how to keep you
from getting bored with me, how to make you happy, so that even though I'm old
and ugly, I'm still an interesting old man who can entertain you when you're
free, and that's how you won't leave me." Su Yicheng said this while
hugging her, his expression serious, as if he had truly foreseen their future
and could truly imagine them both growing old. He thought that by then, she
would be a graceful old lady, still beautiful enough to capture his attention.
"Haha." An Ran laughed out loud at his words. She
pulled away from his embrace, gave him a sullen look, and said, "Slippery
tongue." Her smile remained cheerful.
Su Yicheng also laughed, looking at her, still insisting,
"I'm serious."
An Ran laughed for a long moment, then looked up and said,
with deliberate seriousness, "Who says my husband will be a shabby old
man? He'll definitely be a handsome old man, the kind who can still attract
bees and butterflies even at his age."
Su Yicheng looked at her affectionately, the smile still on
his lips, and said, "I don't want to attract bees and butterflies, as long
as I can attract you." His expression didn't seem joking; it was deadly
serious.
Looking at him, An Ran was stunned for a long moment, almost
lost in his serious and deep eyes.
