Chapter 164: Twins
When Captain Wu received the call, Ling Ran had already been
sedated by the medical staff and was asleep in the bed.
The colleague who had stayed at the hospital told him that
Ling Ran had woken up in the middle of the night after surgery. She was fine
when she woke up, not making any noise, but staring blankly at the ceiling.
They didn't take a statement in the middle of the night, thinking they would
ask more questions in the morning when the captain arrived. However, they still
called the nurse on duty to check and confirm that there was nothing wrong.
However, near dawn in the late night, Ling Ran in the bed
suddenly became erratic. She stared at the ceiling and mumbled something. They
went to listen, but couldn't make out what she was saying. They looked at their
watches and decided to wait until dawn. But dawn didn't arrive. Ling Ran
suddenly went berserk, her entire body agitated as she lay there. Her whispers
suddenly became louder. While they still couldn't make out her words, it was
clear something was amiss. They tried to stop her, but Ling Ran grabbed hold of
them and bit them. She was truly ruthless, holding on until her hand bled.
Like a madman, she held on to the man's hand with such
relentless force that she ignored the wound in her side that had burst open and
blood seeping through her hospital gown. Finally, another person knocked her
unconscious from behind, and she finally let go.
He hurriedly looked for the medical staff on duty to check
the specific situation and treat the ruptured wound. Only simple wound
treatment was done, and the detailed examination would have to wait until
daybreak.
When Ling Ran regained consciousness, the situation was
truly uncontrollable. First, she burst into laughter and shouting on the bed,
then she hid in a corner like a wounded hedgehog, repeatedly yelling,
"Don't come over here!" The police officer who stayed behind to watch
her tried to calm her down, but she suddenly thrashed like crazy. The needle on
her hand holding the IV drip was ripped off by her violent movements, and blood
flowed out of the wound without pressing the vein in time. Furthermore, the wound
on her waist and abdomen had ruptured again, and blood flowed down her thigh
and even onto the ground. However, she seemed to feel no pain at all, laughing
and shouting like crazy. The situation was so out of control that several
people had to work together to hold her back on the bed, and then the nurse
gave her an injection of tranquilizer to bring the situation under control.
When Wu Chengbin arrived at the hospital, the doctor was
performing a preliminary examination on Ling Ran. After asking his colleagues
about the incident, Wu Chengbin's brow furrowed slightly.
Just as Captain Wu frowned, deep in thought, the doctor in a
white coat emerged from the ward, removed his mask, and said, "I don't
think you'll be able to take a statement for the time being."
Captain Wu raised an eyebrow, already harboring a vague
suspicion.
The doctor removed the mask and placed it in the pocket of
his white coat, saying, "I think we might need to have a psychiatrist take
a look."
Wu Chengbin looked up at him and simply said, "Are you
sure?"
The doctor nodded. "My initial guess is that it's
related to the previous rape. Some people have a hard time getting over it, and
they'll have a complete mental breakdown."
Since the doctor had said that, he naturally had nothing
more to say. Wu Chengbin simply nodded. "Let's have the psychiatrist take
a look first. If there's any problem, give us a report."
The doctor nodded, then turned and walked straight to his
office.
When Captain Wu called Su Yicheng to tell him about Ling
Ran's situation, Su Yicheng didn't say much. He simply said, with a hint of
seriousness, that even if it was true, no one would take advantage of it, and
that the matter would be handled according to the law.
Wu Chengbin naturally understood what he meant, but given
the Ling family's current situation, who would rashly intervene?
Su Yicheng had just hung up on Captain Wu when he received a
call from Secretary Zheng, saying he had received dozens of calls from
newspapers and other media outlets today, all wanting to interview him about
what happened at the hospital yesterday.
Su Yicheng frowned and simply said, "I don't accept any
interviews."
"Well, I've turned them all down." After being by
his side for so many years, he knew this. He'd even read the morning newspaper.
He'd called mainly to inquire about his injuries, which looked quite serious
from the pictures in the morning newspaper. He asked with concern, "Are
Mayor Su and his wife's injuries all right?"
"Well, nothing serious," Su Yicheng said. "I
probably won't be in the office for the next couple of days. If you have
anything, just call me directly."
"Okay," Secretary Zheng agreed readily. "Then
I won't disturb Mayor Su. Give my regards to Mrs. Su."
Su Yicheng hung up the phone and returned to his room. An
Ran was still asleep, her eyes closed, her long eyelashes fluttering. It seemed
she hadn't slept well. Yesterday's events had truly shaken her. Even last
night, as she slept in his arms, she trembled from time to time, her sleep
mumbling filled with panic, as if she were terrified.
He lifted the blankets and lay down beside her on the bed.
He reached out and pulled her into his arms, patting her back intermittently,
trying to relax her and ease her tension.
An Ran in his arms suddenly jumped with a starled, her whole
body trembling as if she had a seizure. She opened her eyes abruptly, a little
panicked, "No, no!—"
"An Ran, it's okay, it's okay." Su Yi Cheng raised
his hand to pull her back into his arms, but she instinctively pushed him away,
accidentally hitting his gauze-wrapped hand.
"Hiss—" Su Yi Cheng gasped in pain.
An Ran finally came to her senses, looked at his raised
hand, grabbed it, and asked nervously, "Are you okay? Did I hit you?"
Her tone was tinged with self-blame.
Su Yicheng also sat up and stroked her hair with his good
hand, smiling faintly. "It's okay, it doesn't hurt." Then he pulled
her against his chest.
"I'm sorry, I didn't mean to," An Ran murmured
apologetically, leaning into his embrace, still clutching his injured hand.
Su Yicheng lowered his head and kissed the center of her
hair, saying against her hair, "I know."
The two of them held each other for a long moment before An
Ran slowly spoke. "I just had a dream. I dreamt Ling Ran's knife actually
stabbed me in the stomach. I felt like my stomach was deflated, like a balloon.
I reached out to touch it, but I couldn't feel it anymore. It was a horrible
feeling." As she spoke, she tightened her grip around Su Yicheng's waist.
He gently stroked her back and forth with his hand,
whispering in her ear, "Silly girl, dreams are always the opposite. You
and the baby are fine. Trust me, I won't let anything happen to you
again."
An Ran nodded heavily, "Yes, I know." She believed
every word he said, never once doubting it.
Su Yicheng kissed her earlobe and whispered softly in her
ear, "I want to hear the baby's sounds."
An Ran felt a little itchy, and she shrank back, smiling,
"They're not moving." Despite saying this, she still half-supported
herself and lay down on the bed.
Su Yicheng leaned over and put his ear to her belly, gently
caressing her round belly through her clothes. He couldn't hear anything, but
he had the illusion that he could hear the pounding heartbeats of two babies.
Holding his belly close to his chest, afraid of missing any
movement, Su Yicheng asked, "Are they moving?"
An Ran chuckled softly, caressing his head, fingers
threading through his jet-black hair. She shook her head and softly said,
"No, maybe they're asleep."
"Oh." Su Yicheng's voice was slightly muffled, a
touch of melancholy.
It seemed as if the two little lovers in An Ran's belly,
from his past life, weren't really buying his talk. Several times, the
throbbing belly would instantly calm down after he reached out his hand. Su
Yicheng, who usually seemed quite smart and rational, acted like a child when
faced with such questions. An Ran, with her low IQ, felt embarrassed to laugh
at him. He stubbornly kept his ear pressed against her belly for over half an
hour without getting up, even childishly talking to her belly. It was unclear
if it was coincidence or if it was truly magical, but even if Su Yicheng talked
at them, the two little creatures wouldn't move. When Su Yicheng finally
realized the truth and withdrew his ear and hand in disappointment, the babies
in her belly would begin to stir restlessly. Then, when Su Yicheng put his ear
against them, coincidentally, there was no movement at all. This repeated
several times, making one wonder if these two little lovers in her belly really
had something against him!
She let him stay pressed against her belly. Lying on the bed
like this, and having slept only lightly last night, she felt a bit sleepy. She
raised her hand and yawned delicately, her eyelids growing heavier.
Su Yicheng didn't miss the fatigue on her face. He slowly
rose, ready to let her sleep. As he did so, he placed a lingering kiss on her
large belly, pressing it against her clothes and softly calling her
"baby."
But before he could pull back from the kiss, he felt a
sudden kick on her lips. The force wasn't strong, but it was distinctly felt.
The noise made Su Yicheng's eyes widen. He exclaimed in
surprise, "An Ran, they kicked me! They kicked me!" He quickly
returned his hand to An Ran's belly, directly over the spot he had just kissed.
An Ran naturally felt it, but seeing him like that, she
couldn't help but laugh out loud in amusement. She reached out and touched his
head, saying, "Like a child."
With her hand resting on her belly, she could clearly feel
the powerful kicks of the two little ones inside. A silly smile played on her
face, as happy as a child.
"Hmm," An Ran groaned, her brow furrowed slightly,
but a smile remained on her lips.
Su Yicheng naturally noticed her expression, then reached
out and stroked her belly, saying softly, "Baby, you're kicking mom, it
hurts. Be gentle, please."
She didn't know if they truly understood what Su Yicheng
said, but the two little ones inside her belly actually slowly calmed down.
Su Yicheng was truly satisfied this time. He sat back down
and held Anran in his arms, unable to hide the smile on his face. He said with
a hint of pride, "Our daughter is very smart."
Anran smiled against his chest, her hand gently rubbing
circles on his chest. She said with a hint of malicious intent, "Yicheng,
I want a son."
Hearing this, Su Yicheng frowned slightly and insisted,
"A daughter is better!"
He always felt that his reaction to the question of son or
daughter was particularly adorable. Anran couldn't help but tease him, feigning
distress and saying, "What can I do? I want a son."
Su Yicheng held her in his arms, silent for a long moment,
as if he were struggling with the decision. Then, pushing her away and looking
at her intently, he said, "Then one boy and one girl!"
Anran stared at him for a long moment, then couldn't help
but burst out laughing. "Puchi—" This man was just too adorable!
After laughing, she poked him in annoyance and said,
"You have the final say!" Twins! He thought she could give birth just
like that!
He hugged her again and said firmly, without further ado,
"Then both girls!" If they couldn't have twins, then both girls. He
had to have a daughter as beautiful as her, small and soft.
